Today is COLD, not HOT. In lower parts (high anyway), would be warmer but not hot.

You know another reason could be the altitude...It feels like you are drunk trying to concentrate at that altitude. Sometimes you have to stop for a few minutes just to catch your breath. You see stars if you engage in any kind of heavy activity.

I thought that as well in the beginning, but the alti profile of todays stage doesn't have that much variation, all within 500m of altitude.

If it's pertaining to tomorrow, I;m pretty sure he could rejet at the marathon bivvy

This assumes that the other riders are incompetent in changing mapping/carb settings/parts
It will not be the best assumption from a champion. losing 10 minutes in less then half the stage is way too much to risk for this might be.
The question is why caselli got the green light to go so fast and leave him behind.
