The marathon stage allows for any maintenance, but the maintenance must be carried out by the riders or anyone entered in the race as a competitor. Basically, all the riders are Malles Moto today. Last year, we saw that wasn't the case because of a last minute shift in the support route to coincide with the riders liaison saw many teams create a pseudo bivouac jst prior to the real bivouac which, in a sense, invalidated the "spirit" of the marathon stage.

What I am trying to verify is whether or not the riders get their white, Elf trunks in the marathon bivouac. If so, I would suspect among at least the 4 factory riders, KTM would have one for tools, one for parts, one for clothes/domestic essentials, and one for more parts. Every rider gets a trunk, not just Malles Moto unless that rule has changed. The ASO also transports one set of wheels for them.
Thats different to other rallys then. In the Sertoes (when it was an FIM event) the pilots only had 15 minutes to change oil and filters before their bikes were locked up in the park ferme at the marathon bivouac.

It's good, I mean, today was easy. It was just roads, there was no off-track or anything – pretty easy to follow. Ruben and I had to stop a little bit for Cyril. I don't know why, he had some problems with something. I waited for him but he told me to keep going, so we've come here and hopefully we can figure it out tonight for the marathon stage. Everything for me was fine. I'm learning the navigation better and I can understand it. This is my first Dakar so I'm just learning a lot. I didn't have any idea what to expect when I first came here. It's fun and I'm enjoying it. The race is great and the people are too. I'm having a good time.

It's sure that with Cyril's problems that gives me a significant gap for the lead, and that's a good thing for me. That's just part of racing, but I'm not forgetting that it could happen to me too, so I'm not getting cocky about it, especially since Cyril has the capacity to claw back the time he's lost... So, I'm not getting ahead of myself, I'm just going to carry on like this without taking risks and enjoying myself. Today I just concentrated on my own race. With the injection system, I knew our bike wouldn't suffer too much from the altitude, so it's all been fine... I'm still in the lead, so overall it's been a good day.

Pain in the ASs:

Its on with the trouble w Cyril, I found myself with a signiifcant lead, and that was good for me. Thats part of the game, and I dont forget it could happen to me, also. so I dont cry victory, certainly Cyril has the capacity to win bakc hte time he's lost... Regarldess, I pressed on, without taking risks and I had a good time, Today, I twisted it good, and I know that with injection our motos dont suffer at altitude, so all is going well. Its gonna be what its gonna be, so my outlook is positive.

All I can find is this:

37P4 MOTORCYCLE TRUNKS
Only for the first 20 registered in this challenge.
1) Transport of 1 trunk and 2 wheels is for motorcycle/quad Competitors without assistance only. All
infractions will result in Disqualification.

2) Trunks and 2 wheels must be handed over before the start of the race:
 either in Le Havre on 22
nd
and 23
rd
November 2012,
 or at the ‘Motorcycle Trunks’, situated at the Assistance Park in Lima, on 2
nd
January 2013 at
02.00pm, until 4
th
January at 12.00pm.

Did they ditch the trunks for all the supported riders?

They may write somethng up.

I imagine something like:
(ironic mode ON)
In order to make things more fair, full assitance it to be done in Marathon bivouac.

Why fair?
Imagine the likes of Manuel Luchesse, he has 100% of his support infraestructure available.
Why would we restricted top riders notto have same support as Manuel = 100% of his support structure.
At teh end, it is fair, as it is equal for everyone........................................

(ironic mode OFF)

The rule book isn't giving anything up today...all I found was the same thing Doyle posted which I think pertains to the Malle-Moto guys....guess we will find out after it gets screwed up
