CDP "But i am franch, we dont wear duckbills"

SM: "Sign here please"

After the first TV broadcast

CDP: "Oh mondio, what have i done!!"

CDP was wearing his bandana all through his engine swap, so he must not dislike it that much? Faria wears a bandana too in France 4 interviews.

Just now got word from Chavo that he is in. 21 hours on stage 7am Saturday until 4am Sunday.

Finally got the bike started and got going again. Nearly had to abandon but got some help and a tow from Bolivian quad rider, Diego Martinez.

Phew! 100 pages dow. Catching up is one heck of a chore. Damn work!

Can't wait until the rest day to catch up.

Anyone doubting Cyril should remember kings like him, Coma, Peterhansel, Meoni, etc, earn their crown... so it is not easily taken away.

His mechanical abilities make it even tougher for him to be dethroned.

A lot of the greats started off as mechanics. The most recent I know Schumacher and Raikkonen.

What an interview with Lyndon!

So it wasn't just a case of all the top riders riding in the wrong direction, Pyn rode smart and hard and made some excellent navigation decisions. Fantastic!

Not so good news from Manuel, though:

The situation is quite bad, the engine lost all its compression today was a nightmare for me to manage to pass some sections of the stage. I need to get the engine rebuilt if i want to have a chance to finish, i have the parts but have no clue on how to put hands on the TM engine.

Chris - what was the problem- Stator again - if so he must be getting pretty pissed by now, what with what he has paid for the bike package?

Nice write up and great for Pyndon - but don't forget though that Sam S got a 7th on day 1 last year defore his Dakar X had stator issues (Chavo!?) - ok it was only a 50 something km stage - but still a stage.

I think partially that and partially tight valves. He kept having to get towed to bump start it. Some villagers directed him to a dry river bed and he pushed it about a km. Quad rider Diego Martinez then came by and gave him a tow to get started again. He finally arrived at 4am.

Tough on him, let's hope he get's sorted today but his aspirations of being top privateer are well shot now.

Craig Bounds continued to defy the odds by completing stage eight despite the pain in his back getting worse. The tough Welshman has also started to lose feeling in his left hand, but still managed to get through the stage to finish in 101st which puts him 92nd overall.
Holy shit. Boundsy, man, don't do yourself something permanent there...
