Where they are the heat is gone. Around here, big swings in temps and conditions when you drive for 30 minutes is not uncommon. I wouldn't expect where they are to be much different.

I do hope for Pyndon's sake that the temps are cut. Easy bet that he was one sore puppy rolling out of the sack this morning, expecting another sticky hot day. A wet cool one like home would do wonders for his morale alone. "Just like home. This, I know how to ride in."

Gonna be an interesting day.

The first ten riders are still grouped within a 45 minute bracket, but the others are not too far off either, including certain “fallen angels” of the 2013 edition. Unfortunately, we have not seen much of Pal Anders Ullevalseter. He was seen in the top 5 during the third stage, but due to all the problems he has encountered this year, he has not been able to do any better. Like him, many other talented riders have also experienced misfortunes in the sand, from Javier Pozzolito, 11th, to Paulo Gonçalves, 17th, including Frans Verhoeven, 13th. They all enjoyed a good start to the rally, or have put in a good performance here and there, but have not been able to reach the summit.

"fallen angel"

I talked to PAU yesterday, he refuses to give up. This is his 10th Dakar, he finished 9 times in top 10. Would be nice to round it up to 10 times in top 10

I hope there is still a chance, though it's probably only minimal this time..

That's what Castera said happened last year - sand is heavier, more compact when wet so it's harder to get stuck. But I'm sure many are going to prove that wrong today.

Go to the Dakar site.

Click on the day's route.

Look, yesterday's route!

Yay, that's so helpful!

What fucking morans do they have running their web presence? You guys in business, it'd be smart to figure out who they are, so you never waste your time and money on these guys. Ever.

They're fucking failed meteorologists.

After two days away volunteering, able to barely follow the F5lood, I have caught up again. Tremendous effort by Miguel and Laia. Glad that Lyndon is able to continue/what an experience riding amongst the elite. Barreda, wow, too bad about earlier in the race. Same with KC, my personal favorite this edition. Happy to see JC at a good pace. Luis should be upwardly seeded for still being out there on the 150. CdP still an alien, and I'm still not much of a fan. Thanks Kaia for the picture F5lood. Thanks Mischa for your work on the tracking site. Thanks everyone in general for the F5lood.

Onward!

Joan Barreda and Cyril Despres are heading towards the star of the special, which was shortened by 30 kilometres, yesterday evening, for all the categories. The 133 bikes expected at the start this morning will have to travel just over 256 kilometres on the link stage before getting to grips with the dunes.

a little late

You've been out how many days?

Try getting near your bike after a deployment. It ain't easy just getting a little ride in, let alone actually going anywhere for the first month.
