Now while I can see from your signature that you obviously have ridden, raced and spent a great deal of time in Brazil and attended/competed the great rally events that they conduct in that fantastic country... the light hearted comment (throw away line) that I made with regards to the "cocoa leaves" as a parallel to the long established an much publicized pharmaceutical industry of the aforementioned regions, in no way casts any aspersions on the event or the people associated with it... Just a frivolous reference to a well documented socio/economic/cultural phenomenon that is associated with that place.

A bit like the lowriders of Escondido... eh "Homes"...?

Just a bit of a joke... nothin' too serious...

Sure...it's just a matter of noting simultaneous server connections. Your comment did make me wonder if they've built out their hosting since Dakar began.

The beginning was really tough. Due to the rain there was a bunch of ruts everywhere, so the first few guys had to go really slowly. I think I started fifth, so I was able to catch up. Then I passed Cyril at maybe after 60 km back and just followed on from there. Today was good, it was perfect. The dirt was wet so you could see fine and the weather was good, so it was a nice day. Save for a few drop-offs, the road-book was good today and I think everyone should be fine. I feel good and the bike feels good. I'm starting to get more comfortable with the road-book, so I'm just riding around. Before I really had a lot of trouble and missed some way points. Today was better, because I got to find my own way and didn't miss anything, so it was good. I'm taking it day by day every day.
If he's just riding around, while leading...damn.

From PAU's FB. Google translated.

Pål Anders Ullevålseter was number 27 on the current 11 stage of the Dakar Rally, and fell to 20 overall.
Special stage of 220 kilometers had started in La Rioja and finish in Fiambala.

The winner of today's stage was Kurt Caselli from the U.S. at the time 2:55:01 and he beat the Norwegian by 47 minutes and 4 seconds. Ullevålseter is now at 20 in the overall - 2:50:31 behind overall leader Cyril Despres of France.

Pål Anders has this to say about today's stage:

- Another heavy day (starting to get tired of saying it, but it is unfortunately true) and not really much else to say about either driving or equipment. Struggling to start as far back as I do because of the dust. Sand and dirt in your face all the way and it's almost impossible to advance past the lies ahead. The sooner you start now, the easier it is to keep your place.

Had also a situation today where a rider with start number 102 (?), Crashed right in front of me. I slowed down to see what happened to him, but he was lying. I turned for help and when I came away I saw that his leg was broken and he was in shock. We have a "red button" that each of motorcyclists can press if you need assistance helicopter, so I helped him push this to get help. Several others just drove past without caring at all, so it's pretty raw and brutal also on human plan here sometimes. I hope I get in. I took the loss for this episode, but it is thus not important.
