I took the bike out for my annual New Year's Day spin. The temp is -7c but no wind, so not bad.
One thing I noticed is that the throttle did not return to the "no gas" position when I let it go. Since riding it last time, I installed Oxford heated grips. From what I can see there is no glue which my thinking is, if there was it wouldn't rotate at all. I can easily accelerate it to get more gas, it just isn't returning on its own. Is it possible I tightened the bar end weight too tight? Would the temp make this difference? Any ideas of what I should check, greatly appreciated. Thank you. R |

Take off the weight entirely and see if it frees up.
I've had throttles stick because of:

Try lubing the cable with thin Teflon lube.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try lubing the cable and loosening the bar end weight and see if that makes a difference. The bike is new (1 month, 1200 km's on it), so can't see the cable needing to be lubed. Weirder things have happened.

I'm either missing, or not reading, that the throttle is 'stiff'.
I'm reading that it rotates easily for gas, and nothing about the return other than it doesn't return on its own (which I prefer - a loose throttle that stays where I put it is ideal). Mambo Dave screwed with this post 01-02-2013 at 02:52 PM |

The fit is too tight, heated grips are expanding the bars making it tighter.

Well I finally managed to get more than 10 minutes free and made a couple of adjustments today. The fix was as simple as removing a bit of rubber off the end of the heated grip and putting the bar end weight back on. Works great now.
