Saturday 25th MAY, Solhaga (MARKARYD) in south western SWEDEN


VÅRRUNDAN “Spring Thaw Ride”

Each year since 2005 Swedish.Moto-Safaris host the traditional Swedish road book rally premiere;
VÅRRUNDAN 2013 will be held at Solhaga camping (Markaryd) in the Halland/Kronoberg region on Saturday 6th April 2013 ...
(the first weekend after we turn our clocks over to summer time).

Markaryd is approximately 45 minutes driving time north the southern Swedish port city of Helsingborg, and about 1 hour 45 minutes from Malmö/the Öresund bridge (if coming via Denmark)
or 1 hour 30 minutes south of Jönköping (if coming via the E4 motorway from Stockholm etc.).
Solhaga Camping (10 minutes to the west of Markaryd on regional hwy 117) is also easily accessible from the westcoast (people coming from Gothenburg) via Halmstad and Laholm.

Talking Invitation: VÅRRUNDAN 2013

The annual traditional Swedish roadbook rally premiere; VÅRRUNDAN - will take place in southern Halland / Kronoberg this year on Saturday the 6th of April 2013 ...
(first weekend AFTER we Swede’s change the clocks for Summer Daylight Savings Time).




"Headquarters" for Vårrundan 2013 shall be the Solhaga Campsite / Hostel about 15 km west of MARKARYD. It is an excellent facility with hostel, conference room and restaurant all together, perfect for Vårrundan’s purpose!

The road book route will be laid out in the NW Skåne / Southern Halland / Kronoberg regions, we estimate about 250 to 280 km in total. The aim is to make the route as entertaining as possible with fine gravel roads and forest trackss. Along the route we will conduct a couple of "special test" (typically a grass track test, or enduro trail), which we will release more information about after reconnaissance is completed in January.

Solhaga Camping includes a hostel / conference facility with associated restaurant / bar and full catering/liquor rights. In total there are 50 beds in the hostel, split in two and three-bed rooms in four buildings - LINNÉA (including kitchen, bar and dining room / restaurant), GINSTEN (two storey house with a TV / family room in the lower level), PRÄSTKRAGEN
(including a general dormitory / budget group accommodation for up to 10 people.) and EKEN (where the conference room/Vårrundan office is located).




At the hostel, there are heaps of cozy spots for participants to hang out and mingle (bar / dining room, living room TV etc.) And a large conference room where we will establish the VÅRRUNDAN OFFICE to distribute room key’s, cut and tape the roadbook rolls etc.

There are several shower rooms on site with toilets and changing facilities for those who stay with us during the event. For those participants who camp or even just enroll for the day's ride; facilities will be available for taking a shower / change clothes after the ride, before the prize giving dinner on Saturday night! We will also arrange a "bike wash" where you can wash your motorcycle afterwards.



We will limit the number of participants to a maximum of 80.

TIMETABLE

Friday the 5th of April.
(Approximately at. 15:00) On Friday afternoon, Vårrundan’s administrative team arrive and set up OFFICE in the conference room at the back of the hostel building "Eket".



17:00 until at approx. 23:00 pm. Office is open to receive the participants, share out room keys, road books, name badges, etc.



On Friday night at 19:00 to 20:00 pm we organize a light supper for participants / officials who have arrived and would like to join us in the Linnea restaurant ... (We keep the Vårrundan office closed during the hour). The food is typical Swedish dishes (we will specify the menu closer to the date). All participants who want to join us, can notify their interest beforehand (I will put out a reminder the week before the event) and pay their own food and drink separately (not included entry fee); the restaurant has a full bar rights / alcohol permits for those who like wine or beer with your meal!

21:00 pm Troy will hold in the now famous "road book review / Rally Navigation 101 for Beginners"... a quick and simple to follow briefing for anyone who would like to get a little more "familiar" on how to prepare their roadbook and some tips and tricks for Saturday's route / driving.



At the office, it is possible to fix coffee / cakes etc. (Included in the entry). Here we will also have some soft drinks / mineral water / light beer (included in the entry) available for you while you arrange for your roadbook. We will set up a DVD and TV in the living room to show some videos from previous events / rally and mingle throughout the evening.

Saturday the 6th of April.

07:00 to 08:30 am: Breakfast buffet is served in the restaurant / dining room, all participants who have paid bed and breakfast, will receive a "breakfast ticket" at the office when they check in, which is handed over to serve. Other participants who ARE NOT staying in the hostel (ie. without a ticket) that arrive in the morning and want breakfast, they can paying at the counter directly; 9.00 EURO. per person.

07:30 to 09:00 am: VÅRRUNDAN Office is open in EKEN to participants who arrive in the morning, for the distribution of road books, name plates and the like.



09:30 am - MANDATORY drivers meeting: Review of the route and saftey precautions for all participants; arranged on the terrace in front of the office if the sun is shining (which it always is ) ... in the conference room on the off chance it is wet/cold.



Saturday 10:00 am: START of VÅRRUNDAN 2013 - from the car park below the hostel.






ROUTE: During the day we will follow a route of approximately 250-280 km. More information will follow after the first reconnaissance in January.



LUNCH: We organize a lunch break (about 45 minutes) at approx. 13:00 to 14:00 pm in a suitable roadside restaurant / petrol station adjacent to the route. All participants account for their own food drink at the lunch break.



ENERGY BREAK / COFFEE: At the special test locations Swedish.Moto-Safaris that offer coffee, cookies, soda / energy drinks etc. to all the participants (included in the entry).



17:00 to 18:30 pm: (approx) FINISH – we anticipate participants will return back to Solhaga camping at around this time *

SHOWER / DRESSING *: Usually e field arrives back at the finish, spread over about 45 minutes to an hour and a half. There will be a place next to the hostel where we arrange a wash station for motorcycles with a high pressure washer. We encourage you that IF it gets messy / muddy while out riding, to NOT clog up the parking with bikes covered in gunk, and use the hose or high pressure at the intended location.

NO dirty motorcycle clothes and boots ALLOWED tramping through the hostel / rooms please! Use large plastic bag / trash bags if your things become real sticky – these will be provided in the VÅRRUNDAN OFFICE at enrollment.

There are a total of 7 different shower rooms and 11 toilets in the hostel for your convenience.

* For those participants who DO NOT stay at the hostel, you have access to the three BIG shower / locker rooms, in buildings PRÄSTKRAGEN and EKEN; where all participants will have the opportunity for a hot shower and change clothes after the ride.

We anticipate that the final participants will arrive back at Solhaga no later than approximately 18:30 pm.

In the meantime, the other riders can celebrate the days happenings with a cold ale or two at the bar (from 18:00 pm on) before a first class buffet dinner at the restaurant ...

19:30 pm DINNER: Saturday night the Solhaga staff will put on an awards ceremony dinner at the restaurant. Dinner includes drinks (beer / wine) and a large buffet, typically chicken/ alternative meat dishes with potatoes/pasta and salad buffet with coffee / desert afterwards. Bar service is available at the restaurant for those who feel the need of some extra anesthetic during the evening!

NOTE! The restaurant has the capacity to cater to about 60 people maximum for the Saturday evening banquet / awards ceremony. So book early!

Of course there will be prizes/awards handed out highlighting the days escapades and some special nominations that characterize the party atmosphere of VÅRRUNDAN.

The award ceremony dinner usually runs for a couple of hours until approximately 21:30 pm and the bar is open for those who want to buy something else to drink.

22: 00 - 24:00 pm: After dinner/awards ceremony we tend to drag the party back to the conference center where those who want to continue to mingle socialize can do so (play DVD rally movies etc.) and kick back with some cold beer etc..


Sunday 7th April.

07:30 to 09:00 am: Breakfast in the dining room.

Office open: 08:00 to 10:00 am for return of room key’s etc. and participant departure.

ANY QUESTIONS?

Generally it’s just the standard common rules about safety, machine preparation, first aid, etc. for normal roadbook / group rides that is required. The route is conducted on public roads, public access land (with permission of authorities/landholders where applicable) and IS NOT A RACE... so common courtesy and adherence to road rules AT ALL TIMES is strictly enforced. Swedish.Moto-Safaris enforce a rigid ZERO TOLERANCE (“one offence and you’re out”) policy as far as this is concerned.

SWEEP VEHICLE: will act in the first instance as a transport vehicle; for riders and motorcycles that have broken down. NOT as a service car.

Those of you who want oil, chain spray, tools, etc. with you out on course... then it is your own tool belt, backpack or saddlebag on the bike that is the rule.



NOTE! Only fully registered bikes and insured motorcycles (no competition permits, enduro registration etc.). All participants are reminded that all Swedish road rules and regulations apply on ALL roads (public as well private) during the event and that the upon enrollment at the Vårrundan office, each participant will sign a document declaring that they disclaim all landowners, the organizers and voluntary officials of Vårrundan from liability for any machine damage or personal injury, that the participant may possibly encounter, in connection with their participation in the Vårrundan event, and that they so entirely it by choice, at their own risk.

Swedish.Moto Safaris.se organize the event with the consent of the local municipalities, road owner/maintenance associations and landowners where the event passes, During the recce work, we distribute an estimated 300 to 400 information letter in all private mailboxes along route, to inform / alert locals about Vårrundan’s passage. It has proven to be a much appreciated part of all the SM-S.se events we have organized since 2006... and therein lies a fairly large part of the responsibilty for the continued reputation of Vårrundan, with YOU the participants to ride and conduct yourself in a responsible manner when passing by houses, villages, farm animals and/or pedestrians/equestrians and other road users – to ensure that this cooperation / hospitality will continue even in the future.

PETROL / LUNCH BREAK: refueling depots will take place at regular gas stations. Most have credit card facilities, though some local folding currency is never a bad thing to have with you.

Fuel range for at least 100 to 120 kilometers maximum between refuel points is recommended.

At the petrol / lunch break there is both a restaurant and kiosk; where participants can fix a bite to eat (not included in entry).

It turns out (from previous experience) that it is easiest when Swedish.Moto-Safaris handles all nominations and accommodation booking/dinner reservations with the hostel/catering. Some participants wanted to stay two nights, some stay only ONE night, some want to just run the road book ride on Saturday, while others stay on for the dinner / awards ceremony as well. For this reason all nominations and applications for VÅRRUNDAN 2013 are to go via swedishmotosafari@yahoo.com

NOTE!
There are a limited number of participants - MAXIMUM 80 rider - registration closes on Thursday 5th March 2013. Thereafter we order everything needed for the event in terms of accommodation, catering and rally materials (road book printing etc.).

Nomination fee information effective from Wednesday the 1st of January *

MAXIMUM of 80 participants - registration closes on Thursday 5th March 2013.

For VÅRRUNDAN 2013 Solhaga Camping and Hostel can offer us several different "accommodation package" options;

REGISTRATION FEES / ACCOMODATION PACKAGES

HOTEL / HOSTEL

1. ALT: 190 EURO: - "ALL INCLUSIVE HOTEL": 2 night bed & breakfast (Fri / Sat) and Vårrundan tour (incl. Road book, rally nameplate, special test incl. coffee/energy break and shower / bike wash at the finish) + Award Ceremony dinner / party on Saturday evening in the restaurant after the ride.


3. ALT: 150 EURO: - HOTEL "Saturday package, ride + party": Vårrundan tour (incl. Road book, rally nameplate, special tests incl. Coffee/energy break and shower / bike wash at the finish), Award Ceremony dinner / party on Saturday night + Saturday night bed & breakfast.

NOTE! Max 50 beds in the hostel... participants who choose alternatives 1 thru 3 have priority in registration. All rooms are 2 persons / room, or 3 person / room. Subscribe together if you are riding in the company of a group of other riders (or nominate if you specifically want to share a room with someone else entered), otherwise SMS.se will be responsible for roommate distribution.

The hostel DOES NOT allow sleeping bags... the only bedding provided is the mattress, pillow and quilt. NO SLEEPING BAGS ARE TO BE USED IN BEDS; only sheet, quilt cover and pillowcase that participants bring with them ... or sheets and towels CAN be rented to a cost of 75 SEK (9.00 EURO) per person, (if you DO NOT have them with you), they can be obtained (and paid for) at the Vårrundan office upon enrollment.

MALLE MOTO - (8 man military tent / dormitory).

5. ALT: DISCOUNT PRICE 120 EURO: - MALLE MOTO (Dakar wannabe's) 2 nights: Friday and/or Saturday accommodation (military tent with wood stove alternately; dormitory in the hostel) including Breakfast Sat / Sun) and Vårrundan tour (road book, rally nameplate, special tests/refreshment break and shower / bike wash at the finish) + Award Ceremony dinner / party on Saturday evening in the restaurant after the ride.



NOTE! Maximum 16 participants for MALLE MOTO / BUDGET ACCOMMODATION (8 pers. per / tent alternative 8 pers. per / dormitory in the hostel).

All visiting MALLE MOTO / Dormitory guests must have their own sleeping bag / air mattress with them... the organization provides tarpaulins (groundsheets) and wood ( for the stove) for those who choose the military tent option.

DAY TOURERS

9. ALT: 115 EURO: - "Road Book + Party" Road book tour (incl. Road book, rally nameplate, special test/coffee break and shower / bike wash at the finish) + Award Ceremony dinner / party on Saturday night

10. ALT: 90 EURO: - "ROAD BOOK day trip" only Road book ride Saturday (incl. Road book roll, rally nameplate, special tests, coffee break and shower / bike wash at the finish).

NOTE! Nomination "Day Tourers" are not open until February 5th ... those who book accommodation packages have priority.

CAMPING - campers / caravans /vans etc.

At Solhaga we will also be able to provide those of you with camper / caravan / vans etc. with access to powered caravan sites with electricity if you prefer come and accommodate yourselves.

Participants who choose the alternative, will have access to the showers / toilets and breakfast / dining opportunities, etc. as the rest of Vårrundan participants; You pay the Road book tour fee (90 EURO per rider) plus a 12 EURO fee per / person per / night to cover breakfast and shower / construction costs. If you like to stay in your camper / vans and wish to attend the Award ceremony / party on Saturday night as well...? Of course, no problem you are welcome to book dinner tickets also (30 EURO per / person)

MOTOR HOME / CARAVAN / MX BUS prices.

with electricity 35 EURO per space per / night (up to a maximum of 4 people).
without electricity 18 EURO per space per / night (up to a maximum of 4 people).
90 EURO: - per rider Vårrundan road book tour fee
12 EURO: - per person per night (breakfast & shower / facility fee)
30 EURO per person: - awards ceremony / dinner ticket (Saturday evening).

CAMPING:

If there are those who wanted to camp (by yourself - in your own tent), you will be able to obtain a secure, centrally located grassy tent site near the hostel, shower, restaurant and office for a fee of 18 EURO per night.


Breakfast and award ceremony dinner tickets purchased also as per above.

ALL CAMPING/MOTORHOME booking must be done and paid for in advance along with the rider nomination/entry fees.

NOTE!
It is especially important for those of you who choose to use the Motor home / Caravan / Camping options; that you pay and register TOGETHER (if you are more than one in the same vehicle) and confirm CLEARLY how many you are, how many nights and so on. Please try to pay TOGETHER (installments from different places at different times usually ends in chaos).



NOMINATION AND PAYMENT INFO

STEP 1: Please send us your nomination via email titled; VÅRRUNDAN 2013 to swedishmotosafaris@yahoo.com (no PM’s please!).

In the nomination email we require the following:

1. Your full name:

6. Relatives mobile phone number: (for contact in case of accident or similar).
7. THE ACCOM/PACKAGE ALTERNATIVE YOU CHOSE... eg. ALT 1, ALT 3 etc..

Please tell us if you are in the company of others (up to a maximum of three people per room at the hostel). We will coordinate "room mates" for those of you who enroll alone. If you are a member of a group who prefer to stay in the same house (or interested in the group discount dormitory / Malle Moto alternative) please state this in the email also thank you.

PLEASE cut the 7 points above, and paste them into your email, THEN fill in the rest of the details BEFORE you send it to us ... it makes it MUCH easier to manage all data.


STEP 2: In reply to your nomination, we will send you a confirmation of the the accomodation/package fee due. Foreign participants (those from outside of Sweden) will be sent Swedish.Moto-Safaris bank account number details, including the IBAN / BIC and clearing code information to our SWEDBANK account, so you can pay directly from foreign banks / web banking). For your nomination to be converted to an confirmed entry, you have five banking days with which to make the transfer/deposit.


SWEDISH.MOTO-SAFARIS DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO HUNT DOWN DETAILS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE SENT US INCOMPLETE INFO, OR TRACK DOWN PAYMENT INFO. FROM DEPOSITS/TRANSFERS THAT WE CANNOT IDENTIFY. THE ONUS IS ON YOU TO MAKE SURE WE CAN CONNECT YOUR PAYMENT YOUR REGISTRATION.

Read the instructions, send in your nomination email with proper notification info., make the payment transfer... easy. Then we will update your name onto the confirmed start list to be published here...

NOTE! Limited number of participants:

A MAXIMUM of 80 participants is anticipated. Those who choose accommodation packages / catering, etc. will receive priority over "day trip only" riders. Registrations close on Thursday 5th March 2013 and THIS is also the last payment date. Thereafter we make all the bookings for accommodation/catering and pay for all materials (road books nameplates/decals etc.) for the event.

Spring is around the corner...

Okay, so the Dakar is over... and everyone has had their two week mid winter fix of rally fever!

Now an offroad enthusiast's thoughts turn to Spring... warmer weather... sunny days, fine country roads and forset trails... VÅRRUNDAN in other words!?





Entries to this years "Spring Thaw Ride" have been open since January 1st, and so far over 30 participants have signed on for a weekend of first class roadbook riding, comfortable bed and breakfast accomodation and superb meals, all based out of Solhaga Camping and in Markaryd (southern) SWEDEN for the 9th Annual "VÅRRUNDAN" road book tour.

There are "earlybird" discount accomodation/meal and ride packages available until the 31st of January... so get in now and reserve your spot for this season Swedish roadbook rally premiär.




From February 1st there are "day tour" packages available for those who just want to come for the day... but most find that the bestway to enjoy the "Spring Thaw Ride" is to make a weekend of it, and enjoy the company of their fellow off road motorcycling enthusiasts... good food, good friends and great riding; all in an enthusiastic and relaxed atmosphere... that's Vårrundan.


And for those who prefer to camp in their own motorhome, caravan, bus or even tent... Solhaga/Vårrundan hasthe possibility to provide you with this option also.




Entries close the 5th of March and places are limited to 80 participants, so if you want a spot on this years "Spring Thaw Ride", get in early and register your entry! (details above).

I can arrange hire bikes... yes; regular enduro models (2011/12) with just a manual (plastic) roadbook and original trip.

Roadbook is printed in A5 format (cut down A4 photocopied sheets trimmed to 150mm width... standard roadbook format).

What are the two wildest fantasies (wet)dreams that any offroad/motocross fan could entertain as part of their ultimate riding fantasy…? Ummmm…? To blast around an immaculately prepared 18 hole resort golf course on their MX bike…? (okay… so there are a myriad of other riding fantasies I suppose - involving sunny beaches, jet ski’s, crystal blue waters and bikini clad drink waitresses as well… but I was trying to restrict the daydreaming to somewhat realistic levels… hahaha! )

No folks… at VÅRRUNDAN 2013 we’re not going tear around the back nine of a public golf course somewhere (far from it)… but we ARE going to have the opportunity to do this;

We have planned – as part of Vårrundan 2013’s route – to conduct a “special test” (same place/same format) at this very location - where participants will have a chance to get a taste of the full south Swedish “ Alpine” experience!



Those of you that rode at the 2010 Sv4DE will no doubt have fond memories of this particular “test” (3,5 km’s of grassy slopes and pine forest trails), and the good news for Vårrundan 2013 participants is that we will have as much as (up to) 2 hours at Kungsbygget with which to enjoy the riding, take a break and basically have a ball together!

There will be kiosk/refreshments on hand and participants can ride as many (or few) laps of the special test as they feel comfortable with during that time… or just sit back and relax with a cold drink and hot dog and watch the other enthusiasts circulate… maybe take a photo or two? Then evitalize one’s self with an energy drink or a coffee and then head out for another lap (or so) when/if you feel like it?

Or maybe take a lap on the 935 meter “rodelbana” (single bobsled track) if your adrenalin levels have not been fully met!?



All of this combined as part of the day’s 250 km roadbook navigation route…! As Chandler (from TV’s “Friends”) would say; “… could it BE any more Vårrundan…??!!”

Nominations are open… there are still “early bird” discount B&B accommodation and ride packages available (till 31st January) or just “day ride” only alternatives (nominations are open from the 1st February until entries close on the 5th of March), so come on and join the fun of the “Spring Thaw Ride”.

Vårrundan 2013 "Spring Thaw Ride" - recce completed!


Just got back from completeing the VÅRRUNDAN 2013 recce on the weekend (26th/27th January)...



The result...? A 230 km roadbook of fantastic forest roads and trails...
including the morning "Kungsbygget" 3,5 alpine special test ,
plus a 30 kilometer navigation loop before lunch
and a 20 kilometer "alternative route" in the afternoon stage...



that's either a 230 km route, or 250 km route... or a 280 kilometer feast of Vårrundan fun...
something for everyone!

Accommodation - Solhaga / Vårrundan “Spring Thaw Ride” Friday 5th & Saturday 6th Apri

Now nominations for VÅRRUNDAN 2013 are well under way, and at time of writing (5th February), we have 45 participants registered.

There are now eight "all inclusive" accommodation packages (Bed & Breakfast Friday / Saturday + Vårrundan oadbook ride & party) which are still vacant.

There are also eight "Saturday package" (Vårrundan roadbook ride & party + Saturday Bed & Breakfast) for those who want to stay only on Saturday night.

There are 16 "Malle Moto” packages (2 nights military tent accommodation B&B + Roadbook & banquet) on SPECIAL DISCOUNT OFFER!

... and a number of alternatives to those who prefer caravan / motorhome camping (approx. 10 places).

Thumb The hotel is gonna be packed...

We have recieved 60 nominations to VÅRRUNDAN 2013, the 6th of April - the Hostel/Hotel is now fully booked... in other words - there are no "All Inclusive" bed and breakfast/accomodation packages left.

There are still several places in the hostel dormitory (for both Friday and/or Saturday) for those who need accommodation & breakfast - and there are also camping opportunities for those who have camper / caravan or bus and want to use this option.

There are still 20 places for "day trippers" left ... as we will limit the number of participants to a maximum of 80 bikes.

There will be more information about the route (stage distances, fuel fuellings etc.). during the week - Björn and I conducted the final recce and completed road book this past weekend (23e/24e February).

Spring Thaw Ride 2013 postponed



After a week where I have looked carefully at all the weather forecasts available, monitored the current temperatures and amount of snowfall in the NW Skåne region over recent days and conferred the people in the area ... unfortunately it is with great regret that I have to announce that we are forced to postpone the scheduled date (Saturday 6th april) of the Vårrundan 2013 “Spring Thaw rally”.

This is only the second time in the event's nine years, that we have been unable to conduct the run on the traditional date (first weekend after they switch to summer time) because of the weather.

This year (as in 2006), winter has entrenched itself over the month of March, and it is our opinion after the latest round of snow this week and the continued forecasts of below zero temperatures to continue, for at LEAST one week ahead... that we cannot schedule Vårrundan as we have planned .

So as of now (Friday, March 22e) to give everyone two weeks' notice, the original date of the 6th of April is CANCELLED, in order that people planning their trips / carpooling to this event need not to book ferries/take leave etc. unnecessarily.

At time of writing we do not know EXACTLY what the alternative date will be. Apparently, the hostel we chose as base for this year's Vårrundan (Solhaga Camping) is so popular at this time of year, that it is hard to find a weekend during the remainder of April (and even May), where there are NO other groups that have booked. With a total of nearly 80 participants, Vårrundan needs to make use of (almost) the entire facility, and the staff who run Solhaga are in the process of contacting and trying to negotiate with some of the other groups that have booked, to see if there is a chance to move their reservations or similar, and create a gap for us ...

But in any case, I can tell you the weekends that Vårrundan is NOT going to be held, for those of you who plan other activities during April & May ...

We felt that we needed at least a three-week buffer, so that Jack Frost can disappear altogether.

We will NOT run on the weekend 27th/28th April - not the least because; the Gothenburg area adventureriders.se group will be organizing their own event on Sunday the 28th (thanks very much for your information and collaboration Hampe !).

The new date (Vårrundan) will not clash with “Kristi Himmelfärd” (Thursday 9th May), or the weekend after (Saturday 11th/Sunday12th), nor shall we put it on the weekend of Pingst (18th/19th May).

The EARLIEST it (maybe) will be at the end of May (24th/25th/26th) ... but again, a lot depends on what Solhaga's staff can agree with their other bookings.

When it becomes clear WHAT the alternative date will be (or the different options we have to offer), we will inform ALL NOMINATED / PAID participants of Vårrundan 2013 via email (which you sent your nominations by) so you can take stock of the details. On this e-mail, we will explain the various options / times / dates and options that we have agreed with Solhaga.

Then - if there are some vacancies to offer / trade with other potential participants who had not (already) signed up for Vårrundan (but have an interest to join the new date), then we will offer them a chance to enroll, based on availability/number of places.

I hope that everyone understands the situation... the weather is something we cannot control ... even if we have done our best to try and plan around the circumstances that these late winter storms have created...

VÅRRUNDAN 2013 - Spring Thaw Ride MOVED: 25th May 2013

As many of you already know, Vårrundan 2013 has been postponed, due to the extreme (late) winter weather / road conditions we've had in Skåne during the month of March ... Sorry, but in consideration to the land owners, road conditions, and for Vårrundan to deliver the quality of riding and event we are known for - there was no alternative but to find an alternative date later on the calendar.

Now the staff at Solhaga hostel / camping - where we will hold Vårrundan 2013 - returned with an alternative date, where we have access to the entire facility / accommodation according to the original plan. It has been a little tough to find a suitable date - with all the "public holiday" weekend activities / group bookings, and celebrations which usually fall in April/May... But now, in collaboration with the staff and another group (who had actually booked the same weekend), it has been possible to solve! (Thanks so much to "house mom" Pia at Solhaga - who has juggled the ball with this issue over the last week).

All other aspects of the eventschedule / logistics are the same as original plan ... only now that we are moving the date seven weeks because of winter weather, for what will hopefully be a much nicer / warmerer date - on friday 24th/saturday 25th and sunday 26th of May.

Next weekend (over Easter), I will deal out about 350 information leaflets to all the mailboxes along the route, to inform residents about the change.

Moving the date creates a small disruption in our planning and logistics ... but if we follow a fairly simple "three-step action" (I have sent information by e-mail to all 79 nominated participants about what / how / when rebooking must be done), we will be able to fix it in a relatively smooth manner.




1. Participants that have already registered, get first chance to state whether they wanted to ride on the new date... Those registered participants have until (next) Friday 29th March to confirm their place.

2. If a nominated rider cannot / does not want to participate on the May 25th date, they can sell / give their place to someone else (and they are welcome to offer their spot on the various forums / threads on SOE.se, fraggel.se, adventureriders.se, here at ADVrider.com or facebook, etc.). They have until Saturday the 6th of april to sell / exchange their place with someone else and inform swedish.moto-safaris (with a confirmation e-mail) about the alternate participants name and contact information.

3. From Monday the 8th of april we will put out any vacant placess to other riders who wish to join the new date (25th May) and register as a participant.

Notifications for Vårrundan 2013 (25th May) close Friday the 25th of april (end of week 17) ... then I can inform the hostel about the EXACT number of rooms / beds catering required, etc.. one month before the event.

Calling from ice station zebra...

Last weekend on the Thursday / Friday over Easter weekend, Camron and I ducked up to Markaryd
(about 80 km's from our home on Helsingborg) to where Vårrundan 2013 is to be held, and dealt out
approximately 350 notices to all of the mailboxes along the Vårrundan 2013 route, and inform residents
that we had postponed the event until the 25th of May... because of the snow/road conditions.

Why was Spring (Thaw Ride) postponed I hear you ask...?

Well... if you’re wondering, then just look at the pictures below...





Unfortunately only 40 to 60% of the course lokked like this (or we could have run with spikes as a snow rally )...
but the remaining bits were bare ground and would have obliterated the spikes anyway (besides being diabolical on dirt/gravel)...
so we were niether Arthur or Martha... so to speak.

Last minute discounted spots... Vårrundan 2013

50% of the reserved nominations are vacant ...

One week left before entries close (on 25th of April) to VÅRRUNDAN 2013 (Mk II) - now set for the 25th of May)... and still half of the places are vacant...

On May 25th Vårrundan will take place ... the same 250 km route, the same 30 km navigation test, same wonderful offroad special test on the slopes of Kungsbygget ski resort (we have the place for up to one and half hours, on saturday morning) and an extra 20 km "alternative loop" on the afternoon stage for those who want.

ADDITIONALLY, on Sunday (the 26th May), we have access to the "special test slope" for 3 hours (free-riding) between 11:00am to 14:00 pm. There will be BBQ and soft drinks during the riding... and (if interested), possibly even a "Troy's special hideaway" tour (a 'la' follow the leader rapid style) for those who want come along.

This offer stands for (Vårrundan participants only) who want to join on sunday... group ride from the Solhaga hostel at. 10:30 am sunday ... or meet up at Kungsbygget parking lot at. 11:00 am.

NO admission to the slope / track until 11:00 am ... nominated VÅRRUNDAN participants only.

Now with only a week left until the registration period runs out (and 20 participants have not confirmed their entry) I release 20 places (bed & breakfast x 2 nights accomodation incl. roadbook tour) for the "LAST MINUTE" price of SEK 1000:-

For these 20 places, contact swedishmotosafaris@yahoo.com with your confirmation details (include your full name, forum nick, motorcycle, mobile number and family name / phone no.) and you will be sent payment details. Nomination subject to confirmed payment.
