Some of these responses are a real buzzkill. You didn't buy the car for them, and they don't have to drive it every day. Likewise, though I would always rather see purchasing dollars spent with the domestics for reasons of economic health, it wasn't my money you spent and it isn't for me to judge.
Congrats on the new car, hope it is good to you!

Really? The new passat and Jetta are made in South Carolina. Doesn't get much more american than that. Ford Fusions are made in Mexico, Chrysler 300s in Canada as are the chevy impalas.

Let's see... I like the Passat, check. Have a V-Strom, check. I drink gin and tonics, check. No tweed jackets, but I do have a very spiffy cardigan, does that count?

I bought a new GTI in '85. Loved it. But outside of of the drivetrain it gave me lots of problems and parts were unbelievably expensive. Door handles, sunroof, interior pieces, heater core, and on and on. The headlights were over 100 bucks apiece. Kept it for four years and got rid of it. Soured me on VW's after that. I hope they're better now.

![]() I don't know if it's still true but the most American car by percentage of parts was a Toyota Avalon.
