Hold out for a SE or go with a trick 2005.5 950A
So I'm selling my GSA to get more of a do it all bike(not much luck). I love the looks of the SE and really want one, but... I found a sweet deal on a 2005.5 950a with 12k, Scott dampner, full akras, dicks suspension, ergo gel seats and gobis. I do ride a lot of slab, but a windscreen on a SE could make it semi comfortable.... Could save a couple grand going with the 950 A though.
Thoughts?

I've had both and the Adventure riding position was more comfortable for long periods of time. Bars were my big issue, and the SE's were just high enough to where my arms would hurt.
If you can handle the bars, I'd grab the SE. It'll do rougher off road, easier, than the Adventure.

I am 6' 2" and love my SE. Howver, I can imagine if you were shorter, the Adv might be better. I like not having the front fairing on single tracks but the Adventure is a pretty neat bike. I really like my steering stabilizer on the SE so that is a big advantage on your used bike.

The SE is becoming a cult bike for good reason, it is a bucket list bike - there is nothing else like it and probably never will be with the direction the manufacturers are going. After 40+ bikes I still look forward to every ride on this one. Your mileage may vary.

SE vs ADV
I've had both - an Adventure S 990 and a SE 950.
I traded the 990 for the SE - says it all really! Recently did 3800 miles from UK to Morocco and back, fully loaded, on the SE. Was simply faultless, only drawback compared to the Adventures on the trip, was the slightly lower slab cruising speed required to be comfortable. I did several 600 mile days with no problems. Off road,assuming you are doing more interesting stuff than just fire roads or gravel tracks, the SE is soooo much more capable than the Adventure. So +1 for the SE

Figure out what kind of riding you prefer and make your decision. They are different bikes.
Fwiw, the SE is far more comfortable on the slab than the Adv and that's without the screen. I recommend riding the SE without the screen before you go to the trouble of adding it.

How Much Off Road do you do? Hard technical (ADV Is surpisingly capable) or just fire roads? I want an SE as a second bike but My Primary is a 950ADV (52K miles on it now)
