The Guy With the Train in His Basement
This is my wife's boss. Took him 4 years to put this together but he's got an actual VIA rail passenger car in his basement, down to the last detail. She goes to his place and works in the 'train' once in a while. He posted the video recently and was interviewed by Huffington Post and other media today.
No ordinary train set for him! He makes my motorcycle obsession look like a passing fancy. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/01...n_2424825.html

Very cool - no different than any other man-cave, I'm sure.
Better he should have done a 737 main cabin? Snort. I like his style.

Yes, my wife. Who else?
And get your mind out of the gutter- she's his accountant. The guy sells high-end model trains & accessories for a living. He scales locomotives and rolling stock from prototypes & has them manufactured. They are beautifully detailed. These 'toy trains' sell for over $1200.00 each for a locomotive and he's done quite well for himself.

Does your wifes boss know Neil Young? He is a model railroad buff and I think now owns Lionel. Neil Young apparently records the sounds that the locomotives make and the models use these sounds when running. Many of his rock albums have been recorded in or near his train barn.

So, he built a train car in his basement. How many of us have a "man cave" with a fridge, tv, stereo etc. where one can tinker endlessly or just drool over our toys and hang out with friends?
How different is it really? I think the guy is brilliant and a bit nuts but why not? If I had the resources, I'd do something cool with my own space and I'm sure my wife would be just as supportive. |

The brutal thing is every time I'm on a train I cannot help but think how total crap the seats are.
And this guy brought them home. |

He's contacted Neil about his train, If he comes for a visit, I'm pretty sure my wife and I will make a point of being there! I believe Neil did rescue Lionel from oblivion. This thing has made the TV news and all the major local newspapers. This is the best thing that can happen to his business.

Looks like harmless fun. At least he didn't build a Lamborghini in his basement.

Didn't know that about Neil Young.
Looks like he's no longer a minority shareholder anymore, though.
