Guy knocked my VFR over!

I'm fuming a little right now. There is a guy that works in my building that always parks right next to my bike so that his Mercedes doesn't get scratched. And he always parks crooked and over the line. He just ran into my '08 VFR and knocked it over on it's right side.

-Damage to front and rear plastic
-Damage to mirror
-Damage to peg
-Throttlemeister (scratched up) is jammed against throttle making it not close by itself.
-Damage to right engine cover.
-Damage to left side where his car hit it.

I'm sure there's more damage, but I haven't had time to really check it out. Should I just have the dealer do the repairs, or should I find a body shop for the plastic? I've never dropped this bike and I love it and I'm pissed.

Any suggestions or things I should be aware of? He mentioned that he can't imagine the repairs would cost more than his deductible. I'm afraid he's in for a very rude awakening.

I would insist Mr. Bad Parker's insurance company replace ALL damaged parts with OEM, including and especially the plastics. And yeah, you're right, he's in for a very rude awakening. If he gets mad about it, I'd remind him that he was the one that ran into your bike. Maybe suggest he do some practice parking in an empty lot?

Better hurry up and get it filed through his insurane. Otherwise your going to have a though time getting money from him the longer you wait.

If I find someone that parks like that next to my bike, I move it right away. That way they look like an idiot. and if your lucky someone in a beater will fill that spot for you.

Is it bad enough that a visit with Computrak would be in order? Bent twisted frames worry me.

OEM all the way too. If it seems the estimates are more than 70% of the bikes value, get the estimate to be quoted without the things that might be hidden from plain view. Get the work approved, then have the dealer file a supplement for the rest that they "found after taking things apart." If the estimate is too high, they may want to total it.

It's never a bad idea to file a police report in these situations.

I actually just received a check today from Nationwide after a woman knocked my Duc over just before Xmas.

I previously have had to deal with this type of situation, but without the aid of a police report. Never again.

A woman tipped my Bandit over in a Duluth mall parking lot. Got to say, she couldn't have been nicer about it. Shit happens, and she was right there with her wallet open when the bills came in. She met me at the Suzuki store and authorized everything on the spot with her credit card. She even paid for my hotel for the night. Not at all a bad experience. I'm guessing, not typical?

Can you prove it was him?

Has he admitted it? Have you confronted him about it?

Did the culprit own up to it? Definitely get his insurance and start the process. Let him know it's gonna sting.

let your insurance know too....they'll go after his insurance if they drag their feet.

I was in this same position about ten years ago, the person's insurance took their sweet time getting stuff done - I called my agent and SF got in there and took care of the estimate, inspection, cutting a check so the shop could order parts.... and making sure the other guy's insurance reimbursed them.

true story about 30 years ago

In Wichita. Guy I worked with leaving the parking lot of the office early, parking lot shared with a bunch of retail stores. Double line of cars parked with isles between, Other guy pulls out the blank spot in front of my friend, whammmmm. Friend not at fault. Several of us saw from in the office. We were working so we did not go out there, he did not need us. We could tease him tomorrow anyway,

Other guy did not want to call police. My friends car was not hurt, 5 mph bumpers worked., other persons Civic was totaled.

well other person files hit and run. Police show up and arrest our coworker Lucky there were several of us that witnessed it, it turned out OK in the end, but was a giant hassle. Seems that filing a false report is a crime. Hummm. Also insurance fraud. You could still see the skid marks, so evidence was easy. Our coworker was out some legal bills, and maybe bail bond.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS file a police report.
