GDMF X-box!

I proudly proclaim I am a non-gamer and hate everything thing about them!

So the kids got an Xbox for Christmas. It was hooked up via composite video because that is what they could get to on Christmas morning. It is configured to output standard definition video via that out put. Now that I have snaked another HDMI cable to the receiver, there is no video via HDMI. The "display" settings will not let you select HMDI unless there is an HDMI cable connected. You cannot connect an HDMI cable with the composite adapter plugged in therefore you have no OSD!

So being in the AV industry, one would think that with the HDMI plug and play abilities, you should just be able to plug the shit in and have it work.

HOW IN THE FUCK DO YOU ENABLE HDMI TO WORK WITHOUT IT BEING CONNECTED?

I know this isn't very helpful, but I had similar issues when I hooked mine up. I called support and was surprised how fast, and knowledgeable they were. Worth a try.

Hook it up HDMI and turn it on.

I'll bet the Xbox smells the connection and automatically enables it.

Unplug everything but the HDMI. Reboot the thing. Problem solved. Now why post in Shiny things.. pics or it didnt happen!

I had it on channel 3 instead of 4...

This is the perfect time to get an XBox, wait for game stop to run their buy 2 get one free sale and just get tons, and tons of games for under 10 bucks. I have a stack a few feet high now and most were under 5 bucks. I've paid full price for only one game (NHL 12) so far.

Stu's right, though. Hook up the HDMI, and it just works.

With mine, I can turn the xbox 'on', but it won't actually boot unless the TV is on and the signal is going somewhere. Not sure how it works, but there's some talking going on both ends.

It also works as a power saving feature. I've turned off the TV, and forgot to turn off the xbox, and left for several hours. I came back and the xbox was either off, or in some sort of sleep mode.

With HDMI it does "talk" to the TV, if you have the A/V cable in though it should turn on.
