I'm older than Jerry and enjoy his posts because a lot of what he writes is colored by his experiences - experiences I've had too.

His mechanical knowledge far exceeds mine (not hard to do) so a lot of what he opines is beyond my grasp. That's fine - I've just about decided that all but the most simple maintenance will from here on be done by the dealer.

Can't wait for the Grom to arrive so I can see how it actually sells.

Availability... scarce?

My local dealer had a sit down with his Honda District Rep and was told not to have any realistic expectations on receiving ANY of the 6 Groms he ordered for his August forecasted delivery. I was told this was followed by an argument and no amount of cajoling would change this outcome.

The dealer is not one of the big Power House Honda Shops but they do fairly well selling street bikes. He had no trouble getting confirmation on a Forza he ordered... but sadly no dice on a single Grom as of yet.

Perhaps these bikes will be quite the rare little birds before next spring.

Well that is both good news and bad news.

Good because they are getting ordered and I would hate to see this be a one year flop.

Bad because if people can't buy them they might just move on to something else and not give this cool lil bike a chance.

That is exactly how I see most Groms being ridden. BMX bikes already get ridden that way, the Grom will be a big step up, but their riders will still have the mentality of a BMX rider.

Does this thread really belong in the scooter forum? The grom is obviously a small manual shift motorcycle, in many ways it's as anti scooter as it's possible to get. You don't see scooters being ridden like that.

so my 70 isn't a scooter i guess i'll stop feeling obligated to wave at scooters.... they are "battle scooters" just like the honda trail, st90, rv90, kv75, underbones, and the like. they may not be feet forward with swingarm mounted engine. but they have small motors and a similar mentality.

i have seen a couple zuma 50s in a skate park before(it looked fun too) so you can't really say real scooters are so innocent.

Does JerryH really need to post in this thread? He is obviously a crotchety old man, in many ways he is as anti Grom as you can get. You wont see crotchety old men riding Groms and enjoying life.

Damn scooter riders. They are going to RUIN our sport. Kids are going to be killed left and right. Insurance rates will sky rocket. Companies will go out of business.

HA HA, I hope so!

Driving up the price from what? MSRP? It doesn't work that way in the Midwest where I live. ...And I'm fine with the MSRP but the dealer will match what I could buy if from Russellville anyway. Dealer fees? Freight? I know the guy that owns the dealership and he knows I would just laugh if he tried to charge me for BS.

He couldn't justify charging me setup if he even wanted to. Setup for what? ...threading on the rear view mirrors and connecting the battery cables? Pffft. I bought a CB1100 and he practically watched me uncrate and do the complete setup on it from his desk chair.

No, I think there is some truth to it. Hot new models seem to just trickle out at first as Honda has become so conservative with the fear of flooding the market especially when it's going to be late in the season. And the Big Boy Dealers are probably going to be treated to a bigger slice of allocations, yes?

From my perspective I see the Grom as a toy and if I buy one, that is how I will ride it.

It would be nice if Honda would flood the market with Groms this December so all the good little boys and girls will find one waiting for them under their tree X-mas morning!
