I've been read your wonderful board and now I have decided to write something here too. I haven’t good English, but I think I will be interested to talk with new people from other countries and other culture. So dont be too harsh, I write as I can
On Russian boards almost everything been discussed for 1000 times, and I just bored. I want something new. I found it here.I dont know what interesting would I tell for a representation. And let I tell, how I has installed new sidecar drive into my old 650cc Ural 8.103-10, 1992, and how I tried it. All the necessary parts I ordered last fall at our local dealer. But IMZ reluctantly working with the Russian market due to miniscule selling amounts, the parts I had to wait almost until the New Year. Yes, hacks are not popular in Russia, because most riders are living in big cities, where owning hack is impossible. But I live in the suburbs, and Ural is a best motorcycle for my purposes. Also, I love to tripping, hunting and fishing with my wife and my two dogs - only Ural can provide my needs. For Christmas, I finally got the complete installation kit of the sidecar drive. I was happy and soon I installed all the necessary parts for my bike. And so, the next day I was able to try my renewed 2wd Ural. What can I say? The first thing I was just shocked - is increased offroad abilites of the bike. If before I had to go through the snow to the road with a winch, now Ural calmly rode itself. ![]() ![]() My wife and I were very excited for this transformation of our familiar bike, and happy, we went to ride to the nearest village. Motorcycle has rode confidently on ice and the snow. Without any help, its went out of all difficult places. ![]() ![]() The next morning, my friend called me by phone and asked to go along on the shooting range, located not far from my home. He was going to go with his wife in a small car, and we would went on by our Ural. By the highway we got to the forest, than went the road beside a holiday villages. ![]() The road at first was cleared by bulldozers, but we soon came up against the track, trailed in the snow by off-road vehicles. Here, our friends had to leave the car and continue walk on shanks's mare. We took onto our motorcycle firearms and some warm clothes, for our friends was easier to walk on snow. Then we ride forward, agreeing to meet at the shooting range. Ural made its way slowly through the snowy medley, left by SUVs. But soon I was tell to my wife, what she must leave a sidecar, for I can be drive onward. ![]() ![]() Then I had to push the bike, sometimes getting off it, and soon I reached my goal. Here I saw a few Landcruisers and UAZs, which owners have looked at me with great surprise. ![]() A little later, my wife came with the dog, and after 5 minutes, there were our friends. We has a little chat with the owners of these cars. ![]() We have prepared our shotguns and went to see the position. It was already evening, and it was getting dark, and we are making a few shots, got ready to go back. ![]() ![]() We decided next time to make a lot of cartridges, prepare the cockshots, and with a great company to come here in the morning time. |

PetrB,
Welcome to ADVider's hack discussion. You told a good story of your rebuild of your Ural and the trip to the shooting range. You made a determined effort to get there in all the snow. I just bought my first sidecar from a Russian couple that owns the Ural dealership in Naples, Florida. It's a Ural Yamal named after your famous icebreaker. ![]() No snow in Florida. Please post more photos of your Ural adventures in Russia.

I can understand the politics of the IMZ. At small production volumes the plant will supply its products to where buy it completely, and where well established sales. And for the Russian hack market they simply haven't capacity. Well, let them. Just let the plant continued to prosper further, if desired, we can buy everything that we require for uraling. |

Subject of dreams of many uraloriders. I saw another icebreaker of the same class at the Kara Sea in 2009 - Vaigach. It really is an amazing sight when he stately passes through the the ice field, with hundreds of glowing lights. As a huge floating skyscraper.A little later I'll write more about some trips and show pictures. I just need a lot of time to write something intelligible and understandable in English . And the urgent work is not waiting - I must make it.

Very good build and ride report. Your English is fine, better than some people I know know who were born here.

Just keep them coming, we will figure them out. There is nothing like a Ural in the snow. Except maybe a Rokon.

Great writeup, Petr! Keep them coming! You guys with two wheel drive are convincing me that I should look into a Ural. Also a good snow shovel.
