Changing fork oil in old Honda air folks
I want to change oil in the front forks on my 1982 Honda cb900c....
I have a factory repair manual- no mention or picto-process of changing fork oil... The forks on these bikes is the kind with compressed air. It shows everything in the book except how to drain and refill fork oil. I only think they did that bc it must be super easy?... By I could b wrong. Anyway, have any of you all done this on a dohc 80's cb? If so, point me in the right direction, and I will shoot pic's of how I did it for all to benefit. Thx

Is there a phillips screw on the back of the fork legs near the bottom?

Changing typical folk oil in a cb750 per-air folk, is a matter of draining using screw at bottom and just refilling at caps. But on these, I'm unsure how if it would be same process with air hose fittings...

Maybe I don't need to tell you, but be sure you bleed off the air pressure before you remove the drain screw or hilarity we ensue.

Here is a link on fork seal replacement from Naked Goldwings.
I believe that the 900 has the same forks. http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11831

It's kind of a pain in the ass.
Draining the oil is a simple process of removing the phillips head screws. The chore is refilling the oil, removing the air-assist unit to refill on the CBF requires you remove the handle bars(take off the four bolt below the fuses),then take off the caps. Make DAMN sure you have the bike secured with a jack when you loosen those caps!!!! That heavy ass I4 will come off a center stand so fast it will make your head spin!!!!!!

One last thing...if you choose to ditch the air system(which is junk anyway) and put some progressive springs(recommended,as yours are over 30 yrs old)I can walk you through that pretty easy

Dang, I was hoping I could knock it out in no time....
It appears the air fittings will slow me way down. What oil did you put in your's? Or did you use ATF? I would prefer shocks to be a little stiffer than the are now... Maybe use 10w-40 or 30?... Or would that have adverse reactions? Also will I actually notice much of a benefit when complete? Thx
