I just purchased a 2003 KLX 400SR and joined up to learn some stuff and check out the other bikes
![]() ![]() Here is a picture of the bike when I picked it up @ the PO's house (this is the dirty shot) and I have just begun to pull the body work to go over the bike prior to trail riding. I wrench quite a bit on my 2003 ZRX 1200R (pic below) but, I haven't had a dirt bike in a long time. I look forward to utilizing the many resources here in the forum. The bike is in great shape other than the carb needs to be cleaned and verify the settings (JD Jet kit 3x3 mod) The carb will be last to do as I check over the other items like fluids etc. Regards, Greg ![]() ![]() |

Welcome:
Looks like your Green DRZ is headed the right direction, big tank, rear pegs removed, rear gearing change, rear fender delete. Next up maybe a good aluminum skid plate, UNIBIKER radiator guards, engine case savers, short turn signals. I also ride a green DRZ. In fact have one of each, a 400SR and a 400R model. The pumper carb upgrade seems costly to me for the power gained. The R model with pumper carb does have more SNAP where the SR has an elastic stretched out type of power delivery. Not that great of a power increase from aftermarket exhaust. My Yoshimura slip-on sits in the box after 500 miles of use, not enough upside vs noise for me. I prefer the CV carb power deliver of the SR for most dual sport riding and it wears KENDA K270 50/50 tires. The R has Kenda Trak II tires and is mainly for woods duty. In fact the 400R may go away as I just picked up a KDX220 for the woods IF I can get it plated.. Butch |

Thanks
Thanks for the welcome! and insights on the bike................... I will update my progress as time permits, although I am excited about riding and getting the feel of the bike I have to be patient while I get it checked out.
The bike came with a box full of OEM stuff and a White Brothers pipe. I have had about thirty minutes each nite to tinker so, the carb will be this weekend and my new air filter will be delivered tomorrow. It feels strange that I know the street bike parts so well and trying to learn the many after market stuff that is junk and then the ones that are well worth the cost. Thank GOD for the websites like this one!

Nice stable savedzrex! Another great source of info for your green DRZ is over at the thumpertalk website. It is a virtual treasure trove of information for your bike. Check out the DRZ FAQ section. Enjoy your new bike!
