PathAway GPS App?

Has anyone given this a serious trial run? On the surface it is pretty cool. It can easily load .gpx files, and also easily downloads maps to the device for use when there is no cellular connection. Yes it works when there is no connection to the Internet - I verified that much.

I don't know if I'd be cool running this as my only Nav, but it would be pretty trick to run this app on an iPad Mini in a well ventilated tankbag (yes the cellular version of the mini has a GPS chip). For a $7.99 app it is pretty remarkable so far.

Seems to work in theory but every GPS of any sort I've ever used has quirks, some of which are fatal.

Anyone with experience on this app care to chime in?

Well, I went looking in iTunes for it and couldn't find it. Looked on Google Play store and found it there so it is an android app and won't run on the ipad, so for now it looks like you can scratch that idea off your list. However, the LE version is on sale right now so only $4.95. There is a free version that does everything the LE one does, but Ad supported. And there is an Express version for $29.95 that lets you create custom maps.

Yep, it says it imports and exports gpx, kml and kmz files. Offline use appears to be cached data only though. Which means you'd have to view that area while on data/wifi to get it cached first.

I may try the free version out on my phone.

I have it on my iPad, so it definitely exists for iOS devices. Both an Express and a Lite version in the App Store, more info on the PathAway website.

Interesting. I'll go look again. Played with it on my phone a bit, but I'd rather see it on the big screen of my ipad. I'll post up after I try it on it.

I just played a bit with the free Android version.
Yuck.
The rendering of the OSM maps made it difficult to distinguish roads and towns until you zoomed way in. I would hate to use it on the motorcycle. It appeared that the OSM vector maps had been rendered on their server, and they are sending raster data out constantly. If so, I'll stick with Google maps for oinline maps.
Plus it had to be online to auto download the maps constantly. Though I believe there is a way to manually download maps before you need them offline. It wasn't obvious.

OSMand still wins IMHO.

Found it on iTunes, but no free version. Lite version is $7.99 so I suspect I won't test is out for that price.
