I had an '82 GL500 from '88-'93. It had over 50,000 miles on it when I bought it, and I put 30,000 more on it. Only mechanical problem it ever had was a bad oil seal on the fan shaft, which I finally fixed about a year before selling it. I think the guy who bought it rode it for at least another 10 years. I think Honda hit an out of the park home run with that engine. I don't know why it wasn't more successful than it was.

it's an odd ball that's hard to find parts for now. the 650 is even worse.... most orphaned bike I've ever worked on. I kinda like em though. And the Cachet is very well done.... nice work

There are a few still on the road getting regular use. I see about one a year out here, they seemed more common when I lived in Milwaukee Wisconsin but motorcycling is much more common in general out there. It seems like a rich person's hobby in Massachusetts where all walks rode bikes in the mid west. There were many more older, but good running if ugly bikes still on the road out there.
