BMW rider stranded in the Guaymas/San Carlos area

We have a group of riders heading over to Baja from Sonora.

They are in the Guaymas San Carlos area at the moment but have run into some mechanical issues.

One of the guys is on a BMW R1150RT.

His bike was sputtering so they pulled over to get gas, now that they have has the bike won't run at all.

Somehow they're thinking that a fuse might have blown, but I'm not sure where they're getting this from.

Is there anyone in the area who can point them to someplace to get the bike looked at?

They're heading over on the ferry in the morning to Santa Rosalia and are prepared to push the bike on and off the ferry and take their chances with finding a fix on the peninsula.

Well the whole trip seemed to go to hell.

After they decided to head back one of the other motorcycles stopped charging. So now out of four, two took the bus back to Banamichi and I imagine they'll head back out with the trailer to pick up the bikes.

Maybe I should be more sympathetic....but I'm not hearing any indication that there's anything seriously wrong with those bikes. If we all aborted trips at the first sign of mechanical or electric failure, few of us would make it very far.

Ok, you're right: I should be more sympathetic. But still....

When 'fuses' pop, assume the fetal position and throw some plastic at them...

The charging problem, if that is really the problem (shot alternator), could have been temp solved with an auto battery strapped on and ridden to a comfort zone across the border.

Fuses are usually black or white, and w/o sputters...

Not knowing the issues but Hermosillo is closer,,or have them hauled to Tucson. Taking the ferry probably will further distance yourself from help. Cheaper and wiser to have a them sent to Tucson.

Although they are not a Motorad specific service center, the folks there are used to VERY HIGH END CUSTOMERS and will move the world to help you.
They have direct access to the Motorad parts system and can order next day any item that you need! They will also do their best with their techs and with remote assistance from BMW Motorad via telephone to fix any problem you have. I ride from Phoenix to Hermosillo 1 or 2x per month.. and they have helped me in the past!
As i said they are super nice and will treat you like a king.. Only complaint is that their sales people don't seem to understand why I don't want to buy one of their BMW Cages...
