Srbenda's Station Wagon Thread.
I've only had 1 station wagon in my life. I enjoyed it greatly, and after a brief hiatus, I am getting another. There are plenty of great station wagons available today, from the so-called Aston-Martin "Shooting Brake" to a simple Honda Fit, there are many neat cars that don't fall into the category of "classic boring road-wallowing station wagons".
My first wagon, a 2003 Mazda 6s sport-wagon with a 3.0 liter V6 and a 5 speed manual transmission.

For a Mazda, it was pretty nice. Leather, heated seats, 6 disc CD changer, sunroof, and that wonderful manual transmission.

Just for the record, I'm counting hatchbacks in with the wagons.
Here's a Ford Fiesta over in Europe with a somewhat optimistic sticker.

We have an 08 Audi A3 which I enjoy driving very much. Not quite a wagon, I guess it falls more in the hatchback category you're including. It's a great family car for us. It isn't very popular here in the NY Metro area, but I sure love it.
![]() I thought the Audi Allroad was a sweet wagon when it was around. At that time I didn't have 2 pennies to rub together to even entertain the pricetag, though. I was bummed to read in another thread here in JM that they had some issues. |

Yeah, the Allroad has a troublesome airbag suspension system. You can find them that have been modified by enthusiasts with coilovers, which would be sweet. Plus, the 2.7 twin turbo turbo's tend to burn up, so get the 4.2 V8.

I like the Mazda, good looking car.
My wife drives a '93 Civic VX hatch. Its a love-hate thing for me. Fuel mileage is amazing. IIRC the epa rating is something like 53mpg, but being a super-lean burn engine it really suffered with the switch to 10% e fuel. Me driving in the city on e-fuel it does about 40mpg though. Downside is the handling, its terrible. Super soft suspension (now quite worn out with 175k miles) and no sway bars at all mean huge body roll and a bunch of wheel hop. It has no power steering and actually quite excellent steering feel. With suspension work it'd be fun to drive I think. We'll be in the market for a new cage about this time next year. Most likely a 4-door hatch/wagon sorta thing. Something sorta sporty with decent milage and ideally a manual transmission would be my pick. Although she doesn't care I much prefer RWD or at lest a rear-wheel biased AWD car (so the mazda doesn't suit me particularly well). Not sure what budget will be, but cheaper is always better:) I haven't seen anything I really like yet. The Lexus/yota sportcross would be an option if it were available with a real gearbox. Not sure if a 3-series wagon would be in our price range (or if I could get pilette to drive one - she's says they are too pretentious). Does anyone know if the Audi V6 S4 Avant is available in the states?

A neat little M-B hatch/wagon I saw over in London.
According to the internets, it makes 190hp. It has a good looking rear end too.

OK, here's a wagon that sucks. What a piece of crap.
Pretty nice cargo though.

As previously mentioned here's the most bad-ass wagon out of the United Kingdom, an Aston-Martin Virage aka Shooting Brake.
Powered by over 500hp, this could haul the family pooch in comfort and excessive speed.

Just buy your used Volvo and get it over with. Get the one with the plastic cladding.

Momma's new rig. The camera doesn't show the depth of this color very well.
![]() We also have one of these. A big bunch of hoopy stinky fun. ![]() Owned this wagon for ten years. Probably the least respected car on the planet, but it did everything for us.
