So,
I stopped by TSC today and checked out the food. I found Blue Buffalo (5 or 4 star I think, very expensive) and 4Health (4 star, not too expensive), my Diamond flavor was 2 star but I did see some Diamond brands that advertised "no corn" so they are getting there as well.

Damnit you guys, I am buying 4 Health next I guess, you have guilted me into it..

Only the best for my attack beagle, Franky:

Depending on the quality of the cheaper food you may end up feeding more than the savings to your dog.

My Wife who was a Vet Tech, is very particular on the quality of the food, has chosen Taste of the Wild... The dog seems to like it, so I just say "Yes Ma'am"

I saw it there maybe I will give it a shot. I get the feeling 4Health is Tractor Supply's house premium as they promote it quite a bit, but it does seem to be good stuff.

You can get it shipped for free, from Amazon for a dollar or two less per bag.

I think I'm feeding my mutt Nine Lives cat food as processed by the cat. When the kids were raising pigs for 4-H the damned thing would eat the pig shit too.

Lots of good info here.

I think I'm going to change Riley's food.

Even though he seems healthy, I can see a couple issues which I think I can help with a better diet.

The food I was feeding, that I thought was quality turns out to be less than what I thought...

I use the Costco Kirkland chicken and rice formula for our boxer and greyhound.

With three goldens I'd be broke if I used premium food. Luckily goldens eat just about anything, so I go with Costco Kirkland Lamb and Rice. Decent nutrients, none of the common allergens, and we've had no allergen issues with the hundreds of rescues we've fed the stuff to.

Of course they supplement it with sheep and chicken poop, and trimmings from the sheep, chickens, rabbits and pigs we have in the freezer. For Barley, add any manner of rodents he manages to scarf down every few days: mice, voles, squirrels, chipmunks and the occasional hare.

I'm intrigued by the 4Health brand sold at Tractor Supply. Its $36.99 for a 35 pound bag! One of the blends gets 5 stars on PetFood Advisor. Most of the rest their blends get 4 stars.
