This is a 17" for 550 with a processor just under 4 times faster and the graphics are the same as the refurb so that's a 50% increase again.
Actually, that's pretty impressive. And good to know. Thanks, NikonsAndVStroms!

All the advice on this thread has been great.

I'd keep an eye on the Dell outlet around holidays because sometimes they have amazing sales, what I got last year around the 4th of July for around 400 was a 15" laptop but it's processor is 6 times faster, and the graphics are twice as fast as your current laptop. And this year it would be an even bigger difference.

I have a mental block about Dell and HP computers. When I took my laptop in to have it checked out, I looked around. There were 25 HPs waiting to be repaired and 20 Dells waiting to be repaired. 4 Gateways waiting to be repaired. 1 Sony waiting to be repaired. No Toshibas. No ASUS computers.

I know that MOST Dell computers work just fine and users have few if any problems. But I just can't bring myself to buy one. Can't do it.

Edit: Wait, I just totally lied. I just bought a Dell netbook with a 32GB solid state drive, so I can take it with me on trips. Man, I feel so dishonest.

Anyway, I personally have a Toshiba laptop, and I've purchased 3 Toshiba laptops for my office. Zero problems.

I think the "waiting list" was a reflection of market share, not reliability, per se.

I was lucky enough to get to fix Mulekick's HP monster and I've worked on those X205s a few times. It really is not obsolete in any practical way, especially with the graphic setup you have, but, I would think about upgrading to solid state drive(s). The speed improvement just from that will make your jaw drop. That way you can avoid a mechanical failure with your current drive and the SSDs are useful for future laptops or desktops if you ever retire the X205.

Here it is...

I didn't think about market share, but still....

Like I said, it's a mental block. I will definitely consider a SSD. If I can nurse my Toshiba through another year or two, I'll bite the bullet and buy a new laptop anyway. You know, after I've worked through my emotions...

Did that HP monster really have an Edelbrock manifold?

If Edelbrock made one out of cast iron.

I think I have an addiction problem

So I was without my laptop this weekend, and I can't believe how many times I reached for it, only to find it gone.

I am suffering from severe withdrawal. Now without my laptop for a week. Cold sweats, shaking, fever, blurred vision, bleeding from the eyes... is this normal?

Who would have thought a week without porn would cause this sort of damage?

Buy a clean NEWER win 7 laptop off craigslist. I just did cause I neither wanted win8 or a new laptop for the GF since she barely needs 7. Got a like new 3month old Acer Aspire one netbook that looks brand new for 100 clams that cost 235 new. Got a nice bag and sleve in the deal as well as all original boxes and papers too.

Figured out it was something called the inverter. So it's an $80 fix, which is definitely worth it. Sadly, the part won't be in til next week, so I'm without my laptop for a second weekend in a row. The horror... the horror....

And I did pick up a Dell Mini with a dead solid state drive for cheap. All I gotta do is replace the SSD and load Windows XP on it, and I'll have a machine to take with me on trips.
