Since it's never too late to change one's mind found an article on the K1600 forum called the best 5 roads in Ontario
#5 and #2 are close to our route - probably have to be one or the other

#5 (we would do it backwards from this description) The Glorious Elephant Lake and Peterson Road
The historic Peterson Road starts in Maynooth. The long sweeping tree-lined curves meet the sparkling blue waves of Baptiste Lake and continue under the name Elephant Lake Road for another 15km to the small town of Harcourt. Any rider worth his salt will stop at the South Algonquin Cookhouse in nearby Wilberforce for a bite – you’ll find dozens of bikes lined up outside on any given weekend in riding season.

#2
Highway 35 from Moore Falls to Dwight

This is the gateway to Algonquin Provincial Park, one of Ontario’s most beloved natural playgrounds. A mind-bender of cottage-country scenery with some deep and long sweepers, Highway 35 is the kind of country road we wish every engineer at the Ministry of Transportation designed.
The two things I love most about this road are the sweeping corners that route through big rock cuts, and the deep valleys that seem to want to dip right into the lakes that dot this area. That and it brings me to the gateway to Algonquin and a quick dip and ice cream at Lake of Two Rivers.
A worthy side trip is McKeck’s in Haliburton – I had the Enforcer Burger. I don’t think I needed to eat again for a month after that.

or by slabbing it to Ottawa vicinity #1 comes into play

Calabogie Road aka Centenial Lake Road aka Black Donald Lake Road
OK, so naming conventions aren’t a strong suit in this neck of the woods. But this is, without a doubt, an absolutely legendary road. Any decent rider in Ontario knows this road and will speak of it with either childish glee or venerated respect. This is 100km (62 miles) of rootin’ tootin’ rockin’ rollin’ country backroad with zero regard for efficiency. Try to find a straight line.
Add in the recent resurfacing and the ultra-comfy Calabogie Peaks Resort, and you’ve got the makings of a devilishly good time.

Lakota, where the link to original article? There is not enough info to locate those as written. Also, I will happily incorporate these, but I am getting to finalization stage (starting to print maps and load the GPSs files). Naturally, as girl needs to time to pack other stuff so I'd like to put GPXing behind me.

I'll be shocked it we make schedule as is, so I am afraid we'll need to start throwing things off to add new things (or add additional travel days). I learned this from the last iron butt rally:

Quote:
"IMPORTANT CAUTION: The following bonus locations are like a restaurant menu. If you order everything on the menu and eat it, you are going to get sick and perhaps die. Please pick and choose bonus destinations carefully!"

Well, looked at them.

#5 The Glorious Elephant Lake and Peterson Road
Shown in dark green
--The left most route in purple is our current route ending at the Giant Nickel (Sudbury).

Adding #5 to our track would add approx. 100 miles to our day (total length of day would be 552 miles). The McKecks Food stop would add another 25 miles or so (flag between the lime green and dark green tracks which is not connected to either track)

--The other option we have it scrap the Giant Nickel in Sudbury and find a nice track with #2 and #5 ending in North Bay.

#2
Highway 35 from Moore Falls to Dwight
Small lime green line in the center of the above pic.
It is even more off the beaten track I think we'd be perhaps wasting a lot of time to get a 22 mile stretch of road.

#1 Calabogie Road aka Centenial Lake Road aka Black Donald Lake Road
Shown in pink above and in below pic.
Doesn't really work either Northbound nor southbound tracks.

The red line is our current homebound track.

proposed slogan for the ride:

We're adventurers up to 4:00 pm. After that, our focus turns to making sure dinner and sleep are not jeopardized in any way.

Some information from the Réserves fauniques Assinica et des Lacs-Albanel-Mistassini-et-Waconichi1584, route 167 Nord, C.P.38Chibougamau, QcG8P 2K5

Hello sir,
I have 3 cabins left for rent that week end but I can't separate the week end. I could only rent it for one night a week before. Which means that you would have to commuicate with us around the 25 of august. If you want to phone around that date.......

camping gear?

Is anyone taking any camping gear just in case?

I was thinking a jetboil for coffee on the road but does anyone plan to carry other camp stuff, e.g. down bag?
