Thanks, I'll explore that. I intended to just use it as a reader and it works great for that.
Been looking at a couple of forums since I can an d th e main difficulties s seem to be watching videos and having to occasionally re-log in.

I just noticed (read a review) it only comes with a usb cord, no charger, and it's slow to charge off a computer and will only do it while sleeping.
What a crock. The charger is extra, I just ordered it. Not cool.

I just use one of the $3 adapters that allow a USB cable to plug into a socket. Useful for all kinds of devices.

I have the little Fire HD and I like it a lot. Easy to use, nice for watching a movie on or surfing the web. The app selection is okay and it seems to run everything smoothly. I wanted the smaller one because we have an Ipad and I think it is a little too big to hold for reading in bed (though my wife reads on the Ipad all the time and thinks its fine.)
The battery life seems too good to be true, it goes a LONG time between charges The Fire came with a month of Amazon prime which got me hooked on the service, lots of free movies and free shipping on a lot of stuff. For the money, I think the Fires are great deals, even though you do have to pay extra for the charger and to get rid of the ads. E
