Finally - Joined the Orange family - yes!!!!

Last week I traded my 2011 Honda Xl1000V to the sexiest and best bike I had so far - 2010 KTM 990 Adventure R. Lovely lovely bike - so much different from the Honda, live engine, great suspensions, great sound and overall a lot of character. I had a long debate between 12GS, F800GS and the KTM. Finally decided to go for the KTM even though 8GS looked promising as well but I wanted to be at least once, an owner of a true top quality racing machine. After riding it for a while I fell in love with this awesome machine and if it will be reliable enough I'm going to keep it for a long long time. I know I might have FP/WP issues as well as not very good mileage and expensive maintenance but that's acceptable price for the fun I'm having riding this amazing bike.

Very happy to Join the Orange funs!

Welcome! And I don't think maintenance is that bad once you get used to it. The trick is learning to do it yourself. I bought my bike from a KTM rep, and he told me the bike was always maintained by a certified tech. There were all sorts of things wrong with the bike. Learn your bike, and learn to fix it yourself. It's a unique bike, and a tech who doesn't work on them all the time generally can't be trusted to get it right. Check out www.ktm950.info for all sorts of maintenance information about the 950/990.

Your first purchase should be a sidestand relocator if the bike doesn't already have one. The stock setup is to bolt the sidestand to the aluminum case of the motor and can result in a broken case from small hits or even reportedly just by trying to mount a loaded bike.

Welcome to the orange side
Maintenance is not really that of a big deal of you do it yourself. Just search the sticky part of this forum and you will find an endless amount of information.

Most of the members here are from the USA, I have a feeling that they would be slightly shocked hearing about the price you paid for the bike and the cost of your annual insurance...please share with us. It takes deep pockets and true dedication to own a bike in the land of milk and honey.

Now go!!!!! ride

Yes, It costs a lot of money to own a decent bike here in Israel. My used, 2010 990 Adventure R with 23K Kilometers on it cost me ~23000$, very basic insurance ~1027$ per year and the cost of a 30K km service at the dealer is about ~950$

But fortunately, I can afford it and for me it worth every penny (Shekel :))

He gets it!!!

Nice to hear someone who understands and doesn't complain about the cost and commitment of ownership and accepts them at all costs.

You'll have the best ownership experience and it will be worth every cent to you.

I just don't get it when people want to complain about the cost/ difficulty related to owning an LC8 dual sport with KTM suspension.

Like any select organization... Membership definitely has it's privileges. This one's a big fat grin!

Welcome!

Great to see another committed KTM owner from that part of the world! Incredible the cost of basic insurance and the used machine! You'll love every minute with it, whether it be cruising any terrain you find, or simply staring at it with a cup of coffee (which I also do regularly).
Welcome to the family and prepare to bleed orange!
I look forward to seeing your riding pictures!

Adi Barda,
My first thoughts are security. I'm talking about riding around Israel. Is it a problem being safe in your part of the world? Can you cross into Egypt for instance? Excuse the interest but I always wanted to visit your area but my significant other offers me questions about safety. If it is OK will you give us an assessment?

Again you have a great bike and it does take time to learn to service your own bike. Doing so will give you great confidence.

My part of the world is falling apart actually. In the northern border, Syria is in the middle of civil war with more than 65000 victims in the past year and a half. Lebanon is ruled by Hizballa which is a terror organization supported by Iran and Syria and since Hizballa supported president Assad in his war the rebels are going to take actions against them as soon as Assad will fall and he will fall soon. Also chemical and other dangerous weapon is flowing to Hizballa from Syria which leads to Israeli air attacks like the one happened last week. Israel cannot afford radical Islamic terror organization having these kind of weapons since they will undoubtedly use it in the next war against us.
In the southern border Egypt is a year or so after the revolution and it is in an unstable state it is ruled by "Islamic brothers" organization and in the path of becoming more and more religious and less democratic this leads to huge demonstrations from the 30% minority of educated liberal democratic citizens which don't want to go in the path of Iran.
Also in the south we have Gazza strip which is ruled by yet another Islamic terror organization - the "Hamas". Every year or so, we have a war against them. a few month ago I had a chance to see 2 missiles flying over my head in the middle of the day. the missiles exploded in the air by Israeli "Iron Dome" system - amazing view!
Iraq, Iran, Tunisia and Libya are also very dangerous for western guys to visit but I think Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are safe enough.

Hope it helps

I thought my 990 was expensive to own in NZ, but you got us Kiwi's beat hands down! For those who connect with this bike though, the cost of ownership is a small price to pay for the joy of riding it. Look forward to seeing some pics of the bike from your part of the planet!
