Akrapovic at 1/2 the price? Akrapovic can not be making that much profit margin (the motorcycle industry doesn't exist at that ultra high end product level) & that someone can match the quality for 1/2 the price. either the workers get paid nothing or there are shortcuts that might not be visible. i'm visualizing Harbor Freight version vrs the true version...yes it's 1/2 price. am I missing something here?

when something is 1/2 the price of something else (and the quality is just the same) it's often one of those, if it's too good to be true then it is probably is not. how is that price achieved? Chinese produced? un-seen short cuts? maybe eastern europe low wages but still higher quality? i can go to Harbor Freight and buy a tool for 1/2 the price and it's still a Harbor Freight tool.

the reverse thought is Akra is overcharging? that would be over the top overcharging.

i don't doubt that Wings is a reasonable pipe but let's here more about the quality & construction when they can charge 1/2 the price and as you say same quality.

How does a Nissan GTR ($100K) beat 90% of the supercars that are 3+ x it's cost? Then there is the Mitsubishi Evo X who's performance is on par w/ the GTR and it only costs $50K.

Keep in mind this is a winter sale price directly from the the manufacturer.

There are however plenty of reviews out there attesting to the quality of the Wings exhaust.

Akra has been around for a bit and has really built up its name...price as a luxury brand. I remember when Akra was new and unheard of and not crazy expensive. Hint, hint......both Wings and Akrapovic are made in Slovenia.

The real question is why does any exhaust cost $300+, unless it's using chamber technology like a Remus or a Saintune. It's a rolled tube w/ two caps and a baffle.


A couple of the guys on the Sibrinski Extreme 2012 ride ran them for over 20,000km with no issues.

There is an accounting term called overhead - Wings site says they are hand built, one at a time, in a small workshop, thus low overhead. Akro is a big outfit, lots more overhead to cover.

Plus one for Wings. I have them on my SE and my 990 R. They are very high quality and very similar to the Akras. I consciously chose Wings over Akras and would do so again in a heart beat.

How's the feedback with Wings for the 2-1 flow? Is it the same pipe used for the 2-2 setup?

It is on my SE. I removed the inserts so it's one big open pipe. It's loud when you get on it it, but fine if you keep it mellow.

I like it a lot. One thing I like that others may not is that when you roll off the throttle, there is more engine braking with the 2 into 1. Colorado Uli's SE has dual Akras and I noticed a pretty big difference in engine braking. YMMV

Also, I have the dual Wings set-up on my 990R. The SE has more engine braking that the 990 as well. However, it doesn't seem as pronounced as it did on Uli's SE. Maybe I'm remembering it differently. I rarely ride that gigantic pumpkin with his 4" bar risers and tall seat.
