Truro Sth Aust Bakery challenge Feb 2013

Rumour has it, started by a fellow "un-mentioned " inmate about the frequent organised rides to see the gorgeous "bakery assistants" at Truro, apparently by all reports they are & have some of the most visually pleasing Custard Berliners around , although he keeps that secret to himself .

To put us off the trail, we also received this .....

it didn't end well

Well, a few of us "southern riders" CharlieW, KymW, GrahamG & myself didn't take the bait and met near the bottom Norton Summit for a short early morning squirt through the cool morning scented air of the Mount Lofty Ranges to Truro via ....... ........ a Birdwood bakery of course

........ some 200 + kms of smiles upon smiles later, we made it to Truro.

A short break to catch our breath, then .................

Ever conscious of the locals

continuing ........

Regrouping occasionally to share our thrills

Before someone mentioned THE WORD ...................... 'Bakery' ' and they were off in a flash

I hadn't noticed the Blues Brothers before

We weren't the only ones bannished outside

When our hunger was sated from our early morning start, the fun continued .....................

before another break was necessary

Continuing ..........

We decended into the North Rhine River Valley towards our destination

Waiting ..... waiting ..... waiting ..... no CharlieW ????????

So a quick back track ................... with fingers crossed

Apparently miscommunication saw him tootling down Pine Hut Road before he realised he wasn't riding in dust any more

Relieved we stroved forward with one goal in mind

The heat was building & as we pulled in front of the Truro bakery, instead of the usual fabulous gluttony scent of a bakery, there was a strong woft of fuel in the air .

Closer inspection saw fuel streaming from under KymW's Aprilia, which luckily stopped after turning off the ignition.

Nothing was gunna stop us now, we were "on a mission from god"

AND ................... We weren't dissappointed

(now what were you guys actually thinking )

continuing after lunch ............

Work was required if we were to get home

It turned out a clip holding the injector cap had come loose and it wasn't long before we hit the trail again

I could see CharlieW was reinvigorated by the speed he was entering the corner and it was going to be a pleasing moment for my camera .................... one way or the other

The others not so

Although KymW was showing good signs

Following a ribbon of light

Before pausing to enjoy our options from Mt Karina, gateway for Adventure riding the eastern plains of Moculta.

continuing ..............

We decended to the base of Mt Karina & headed south along the edge of the plains, before climbing the range up Pine Hut Road

But not for long ............................. as power drained from the Aprilia again ......................... and we thought ................... Oh no not out here

In the heat, thoughts began to filling our minds on how we would stop a bush fire out here, if the Aprilia actually went up

We scouted the track for the biggest, shadyist, breeze filled tree ......................... many hands make light work

Eventually the problem was solved and a B-line to the nearest pub (that being Mount Pleasant) was mapped

However the increased power of the Aprilia had its handicap & on cresting a hill into a T-junction it finally made his day

Luckily damage was kept to a few scratches to his new paint job & his pride.

Fabulous enjoyable brisk days riding guys, thanks for the company , cya again soon

Great ride report once again MB, I spent the day concreting, would have much rather been out on the bike..

Cheers, Sol..

P.S. The Aprilia is the right colour but the wrong brand..
