You had just picked up provisions from the store for a nite in the bush.
I was thinking about what I could take off my 950 so I could ride along.

Hey, Rich! That was great entertainment watching you three ride up the Mesa. I didn't time it, but it seemed like an hour or two sitting in my chair with binoculars watching. I think I could hear Mark swearing from miles away. I ran into Malcolm's son, Alexander and his cohort Bob, a week or so later just before they rode up it. They were both surprised to hear that you guys rode up it with loaded bags...good job! Hellova way to start the day, eh? Glad to hear that you guys finished the trip safely.

I can't believe you guys couldn't smell the icy cold beers a half mile away the night you camped at San Carlos...you must not have wanted one bad enough!

Enjoying your ride report. I would like to hear a little more on your thoughts regarding your choice of bikes.

Thx

Bgunn, thanks for the picture! last year I was on the big pig looking at the little bikes dreaming too!! although having the comfort of the big bikes as well as all your stuff is nice too. Steve, I figured you were getting a kick out of us headed up that trail! I sat up top for awhile until I felt guilty enough to walk down and help Mark! Quin said he was waving to you guys. Joe, so you met JD too! i wished I could have remembered all his stories but they were flying out so fast I only saved a few in my head!! well I finally got a chance to work on this report again so here we go!!

San Ignacio to Loreto
We woke up to overcast skies and a slight misty rain but not enough to cause a problem. It actually cleared up quite nicely on our ride down to Loreto. We decided on an easy day of pavement along the bay of conception on down to Loreto. We rode up through the down town areas of Santa Rosalia and Mulege just to sight see. These both are neat little towns and I still would like to spend more time at both someday. We got to Loreto and got a room at the Plaza Loreto inn. We stayed there last year and liked the location of it. The rooms have gone up though, for a two bedroom they are charging $580 peso’s and a three bedroom was $750. I do like how they will let you pull your bikes into the courtyard. They also have an area off the side that you can change your oil, they even got rid of the old oil somewhere! By far the best food we had in Loreto was at a little outside restaurant next to the hotel named (taco’s and beer Pangalapa) we had 5 beer’s and 24 clams for $21. We would end up staying for three nights before we would head north. Mark would fly home on the 27th and Zane flew in the the 26th to ride his bike back north.
Total miles 170
Had to do at least one self portrait!

Riding through Santa Rosalia.

This was a street shot of Mulege.

This was our hotel in Loreto.

The bikes safely tucked away in the courtyard!

Lunch at Pangalapa!

They let us change our oil out back, Quin opened the wrong cover and had to re-assemble his oil pump!! after we got our bike prep done it was time to drink some beer!

They are just finishing up their malecon project, only two years behind schedule!

We found this nice hardware store for tools and parts.

Mark had to JB weld the oil level indicator screw in as the threads in the cases had stripped out!

Now it was time to eat some chocolate clams!

As you can see, this place made a real impression on me! the clams were unreal. the place was full of locals eating which is always a good sign.

here are a few shots around town

this is the La Mission hotel on the malecon, we came here to watch the supercross race in their bar.

Mark posing at La Mission

Zane made it into town and we met up with Darryl and James again so it was time to have a few beers at (the biker bar).

We wound up having dinner right in the town square next to the capital building. I cant remember the name of the place.

not much food! but they did have some good local beers, ales not lagers for a change!!

Mexican traffic cone!

Well it was time to say goodbuy to Mark! so with a hangover and a smile he hitched a ride with Darryl to the airport.

another one of my canine friends!

Loreto to Scorpion bay
We got out of town around 9am and headed west to Scorpion bay. On our way we decided to take Zane up to San Javier mission then head on over to Scorpion bay. We took the route through the mountains from Comondu to San Isidro then on up to San Juanico. Parts of this route hadn’t had traffic on it for some time. the goats had been through there so the rocks were rolled out and loose. Although the route is rocky there isn’t any real tough spots. When we arrived in San Juanico we met a large group of riders headed for Loreto, it looked like a tour group. We ended up camping on the beach and bringing Tamales back to camp with a few beers to wash them down. This beach is breath taking and a must see for anyone!
Total miles 112

This would be Zane's first ride day, and yes he looks like a younger version on the Dos equis guy!

We had to say goodbuy to our new buddies Darryl and James. we all made promises of staying in touch and ride together someday. and yes James wore that shirt every single day!

San Javier

They have paved the road all the way to San Javier now :-(

I love the beauty of these mountain routes!

Just coming into San Isidro.

Got into San Isidro, stopped at a little market and handed out some stickers!

Then it got scary!! way too aggressive on the sticker begging! is he foaming at the mouth?

At least most of my stickers are gone! could be because I told them I'm Johnny cambell! not really!!

1/28/13 continued

After the sticker mugging we made our way on over to San Juanico

This section of road is long straight and fast.

We finally made our way to Scorpion bay.

My campsite on the beach!

I'm not sure about the story behind this gem!

Looking down at our campsite

They were just finishing up lobster season.

Here's a few local dog's, this guy lost his ears somehow?

They had built 20 of these palapas since last year, while searching for campfire wood we were wondering if they would notice if they only had 19?
