I like the concept. $3k seems reasonable for a combo mower/genny/light duty utility thingy.

But, at that price point I have to question the quality & reliability. Parts made in China, but assembled in NC.

I'll give this a year or two to shake out in the real world before I bite...

ATV...I can see perhaps a pitch for hybrid on that.

But lawn mower? You don't have a distance issue. So the argument would be...why not just make it electric?? Your battery needs would be dictated by the size of your lawn, basically. Maybe I could see something specific like intelligent use of the gas motor, where it's only engaged when you need to operate the blades or whatever your'e plugging in to draw power "high-load" type things.

I agree, waiting will probably pay off. But I LOVE the idea.

I want to upgrade from a lawn tractor to a garden tractor, and that's a nice price point. I'm looking a minimum of 5 grand for a tractor plus another grand for a machined cutting deck.

I could buy one of those and have plenty left to rent a bigger tractor for those times I need the extra capability.

Real mowers cost money.

The "real" mowers last though... I've got a John Deere 300 that's probably 30 years old, and its STILL in better shape than the John Deere STX 38 I also have.

Yup, I have nothing of value to contribute here... carry on.

it is a nice gimmick, lots of people will buy them, less than 10% will ever use it as anything but a lawn mower
if you search the lowes site, they also sell a pure electric rider in the same price range that will supposedly cut 2 acres on one charge

Bingo. What a piece of crap. Forget the whole gimmick of the hybrid nonsense, etc. Just look at the motors on that mowing deck. NFW those can maintain 4-5 HP each. If they can't do that, they aren't even close to the performance of a common, belt driven lawn tractor.

On top of that, it has to weigh a freakin' ton: a 7kW generator, three drive motors AND the normal lawn tractor chassis? No thanks.

After more thought and research, I agree this thing is a gimmicky piece of junk. I anticipate a series of web videos that show this thing fail on many levels.

But hey, it can win a pulling contest...

Even the cheapo 1997 JD 'Sabre' we inherited when we bought our house is still going strong and hasn't let me down...this Raven with all that electrical trickery and shoddy assembly with low-grade components probably wouldn't last more than a few years - I guess we'll see.

Because I'm not buying a lawn tractor from Home Depot.

Go price a garden tractor someday.

Better yet see what happens when you want something that can utilize hydraulics.

That sure does a good job cutting grass that's barely there, its just a dumb gimiky thing that's just got more things to break that are more expensive.
