Works for me! Several people have told me that we need anything from a fire pit to a dedicated building to hold things together.

I had also thought about a shooting range if we can get suitable property. Figure that would appeal to you ;)

Solar powered air conditioning unit. A bit pricey, but the article does lay out the basic calculations and components so it's a start.

We used to have an inmate (I think he was, he was certainly on the big GS list) who had something like this at Castle Crags near Shasta. His idea was to put in a number of park models, the kind that looked like cabins, each with a hot tub, in amongst the Ponderosa Pines. He was buying up some Airhead GS PDs and was going to rent them out for day trips in the local area.

I stopped there for a couple of days with some other riders on their way down to the 49er rallye. Rode around, stayed in one of the "cabins", relaxed in the hot tub. Then went on to the rallye.

A few weeks later (?) the owner and one his friends were out riding on a playa in Nevada and collided with each other at high speed (100+ MPH). Killed him, put the other guy into a coma.

Anyway, it seemed like a good idea to me. If I was to go to one of these in Texas I would want it to be in the Hill Country.

You know what I like about that? You can CLEAN your friggin' solar panels. I've got like 4 neighbors who've mounted them on their roofs, and I'm thinking...how absolutely inconvenient!!

This is about 100 miles from Leakey and that's the western end of the Hill Country. Also have a friend that wants to develop her ranch near Utopia into some sort of similar resort, so there is scope for reciprocity.

I have looked for property around Bandera but it's more expensive around there than Eagle Pass, not on the border (although 100 miles isn't an amazing ride), and Bandera is maybe 30 miles from "civilization" as defined by having a WalMart and chain restaurants. However, compared to Utopia (population 250) Bandera is positively metropolitan and the riding is excellent.

You'd probably love it around the Ft. Davis mountains, but I'm not sure anyone would want to drive that far.

Interesting cube and glass house in a desert climate. Might have some ideas relevant to my project.

Interesting interior. Very spartan and very open. The house is actually mostly glass but uses some sort of cloth product to control the light and which gives the exterior the appearance of a solid.

Especially after dark and after a few beers. I have literally seen folks at the Longhorn Saloon get pale when I tell them that I have to ride back to Utopia and through all the deer. After dark I seldom ride over 45.
