I was actually concerned about that, so bought a decibel meter ap for my iPhone and stuck it in the hack. Out of the windstream it was pretty consistent that mid-70s was as high as it went.

I once saw a lovely boxer pulled in a trailer behind a Harley with straight pipes. Even with the engine off the owner had to bellow at the dog to be heard. I really felt for that dog. Some people care for their animals, and others don't

What is the law regarding having a dog on the bike with you?

I would love to be able to take my dobie on a ride but fear the guys with shiny shoes would ruin my trip.

Has anyone been ticketed before?

Is it different state by state?

Is a dobie too big to put on a bike? I'm thinking I would need a Goldwing or Voyager or something.

Sallydog, thanks so much for sharing those awesome pictures!

I used to ride with my old Fox Terrier on my bikes, he would sit up on the tank in front of me until he reached 12 years old, then spent the next 4 years riding in a backpack with his head out the side.
Never had a problem with him, he leaned into the corners and just went with the flow.

My mum rides a scooter around with her Bijon and Pomeranian dogs tied between her feet, one looking out each side.
Looks funny and she has never had a problem from anyone about it.

I've seen a few riding dogs here and one parrot.
The way I see it they are just another member of the family and if there is an accident, I would still be gutted whether it was a sibling/girlfriend or my dog.
And so I just rode accordingly, very cautious and easy.

I know it's not a dog but there was a very famous cat here in NZ called Rastus, Rastus and his pet human Max rode all over NZ and became legends for their exploits and charity rides.
Sadly in 1998 Max, his partner Gaynor and Rastus were hit head on by a car all all three passed away instantly.

Awesome pics Sally! Certainly an inspiration. My partner and I both ride (she has her own), we will be teaching our next dog to ride with us. Two questions for you: what do do you do in the rain? Also, does the service dog vest help with taking your pup into places? I worry about wanting to go into a Subway or something for lunch and keeping our dog cool. Thankfully neither of us like motels, so no worries about finding dog friendly ones.

I have been grilled hard by a jerkoff leo.

Exempt from seatbelt laws
Only a person requires a helmet.
My dog is in a iata compliant pet crate for his size.

I have been in many states like that. He is 55lbs and I feel him move

When it rains we get wet... no worries, he has a fur coat. If we have to ride in real rain I cover the hole

The vest allows unharressed access in most places but I get grilled heavily some places

In real cold I tape up his bars with clear tape, like storm windows

Never considered Before....now

I had never considered bring my dog with me but seeing some of these images I might need to change my thoughts about it. I have a 60Lb dog and a BMW R1150GS I wonder how something like this would do. Can attach some additional panel to close up some of the vent holes upon noise or weather.

Not Cheap but like the idea of something sturdy

I sure miss Paige, my Husky. She passed away from cancer nearly two years ago.

Snoopy - the Jack Russell Terrorist - is still with us, as is Ivy (the Rat Terrorist) and now Mugsy. No more sidecars, but Mugsy is a 6 lb chihuahua/Dacshund mix that likes riding with me zipped up in my riding jacket with his head sticking out below my helmet.

he absolutely cant wait to get on the bike in the morning.
i wanna ride 2 hours, he is happy

i get snowed in 4 days in South Dakota, he is happy

no nagging ever or arguing which direction to ride, just a smile, a nuzzle, and a wagging tail.

i had a cop pull me over. tried everything he could to ticket me but i know the law. he finally asked, well what happens if you get in an accident with your dog. i said "dont know, what happens if an 18 wheeler runs over your wifes suv"

but nothing is better than seeing this all day

Dawson's longest is pretty similar, Dempster, Dalton, & lots of North country, 60 days, 12K miles, all before he was 6 months old, rides every day with me & your summary of traveling with dog is spot on! As soon as I get the keys & put on the harness I wear to clip him to me he does a victory dance in the living room, doesn't care where or how far we go he's happy. Loves to be going along where ever we go, nose in the wind taking it all in
