TTR225 shock spring rate

My eyes are getting blurry from scouring Google results.

Anyone happen to know the stock spring rate of the rear shock on the Yamaha TTR225 (or XT225)? Looking to bump mine up a bit.

So far:
  • Racetech site - no information for shock
  • CannonRaceCraft - has a range of 4.2 - 8.0 (from memory) - but no recommendation, so not sure where to start
  • Forums - no luck

Especially if anyone has bumped up their spring rate & can share weight plus results...any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!

Take the spring off and take it to a suspension shop or send it to cannon. They should have a spring rate tester or you can put the spring on the floor and measure its height. Then add weight to the top of the spring till it compresses 10mm. Take the weight in KG and divide it by 10 and that'll give you the KG/MM spring rate. Ideally you would measure it through 50mm of stroke to get an average but that method will get you close enough to make a good choice.

Very interesting. Thank you! Nice to know how to arrive at the calculation. I guess it makes sense if you think about it...kg per mm...:) Plus I already know the spring length - was able to find that. I also have comparisons of front to rear spring rates from suspension calculator for similar size bikes to take into account. Good stuff.
