Hi, my 640adv has developed some strange sound comming from the engine.. It only happens when it's warmed up well (after 15-20 min riding), and for example in second gear, cruising at a steady speed, rpm at about 4-5000, and then I'm not closing off the throttle fully, just backing it up a little and holdig it there (for example, for slowing down slowly, avoiding hard engine braking). Then I get this sound (during the steady, but small throttle opening) .. It sounds like the whole bashplate would be rattling, it's realy noisy like putting marbles in a metal pan and shaking it.. However my bashplate is rock solid mounted.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Pull the clutch cover and clutch assembly and check the bearing back there if you have a pre-03 model.
you might also see some rub marks on the inside of the cover and the clutch hub before you ever get the clutch assembly off.

Do you have any rocks between bashplate and motor?

Thank you for you answer!
It's a 2005 model. Do I need to drain the oil for taking off the cover, or is it enough to lay it on its side?

No:( It's clean, and the rubbers are good as well.

Anyone ??????????????
I think you will have to resort to calling dealer directly, watching the flea market here, ebay and craiglist wide search programs(like searchtempest). My buddy got his from touratech, 5 yrs ago, long after they were off their catalog, but they had a pair collecting dust in a corner.

05 shouldn't have that problem they changed the bearing used to the better design in 03.
But if you want to pull it apart you can lay it on its side and pull the cover.

Check over the whole bike for loose fasteners/bolts... Often when something comes loose on the 640 you'll get a rattle up front at certain revs... I've had this happen on several occasions: a couple times when my pannier frames had developed cracks, another when my barkbusters {handguards} had come loose...

My engine was noisey so I pulled the skid plate, I was down on power too so I washed the filter in petrol and reoiled with spare engine oil.

After 600 miles of dirt in Idaho.

I am looking of a Decal set for a 2000 640 18L in orange. Can anyone tell me if part #953156 on this link is right. http://www.bikebandit.com/2000-ktm-6...5267#sch462471

It seems right, but the picture doesn't show much.

Also, if anyone has a better source that would be good to. I probably shouldn't spend money on making the bike look good since it will get all scratched again, but I took off the old faded/scratched decals and replaced the faded/scratched/oxidized/turning to powder plastics and now the blank tank is bothering me.

I picked up plastics from an inmate who is parting his bike out

Good to see they are being put to good use!

I think the decal set on the number plates came from ridepg

If you can use them you can have them. They are pretty trashed, but not broken or anything. Just a bit ugly.

PM me your address. You can paypal me to cover shipping, should be about 15 depending where.
