I know what you're waiting for.........but you have to get there before you can ride it..........

So, down the road we go. Destination El Fuerte

And on the way across those fields, we run into our first taste of offroad. A fairly long stretch of dirt roads, several of which had been recently graveled with 4-6" of medium sized, sharp rocks. Suddenly, everyone was up on their pegs and practicing for the next 6 days. It was a bit of a relief to come to the end of it without any spills.......

Riding through mesquite country sprinkled with fields,

We cross a river,

and soon pull into the semi-resort town of El Fuerte.

We had started early and arrived early, it was just mid-morning so we had the day to explore this place and I did a bit of bike work. The Rallye fairing is great for open distance but it doesn't mount the headlight correctly so I adjusted it. During that process I discovered that my kit didn't have the proper allen wrench, Gregg had a full tool kit which did as well as he contributed a bolt for my heat shield. I was lamenting not bringing my bigger kit but Burt had advised to travel as light as possible. If the bikes break down, Mi Vale Madre.......

Dia Tres

Todays video is for Mike, don't know if he likes the music, but he likes the girl

First stop of day three. We needed coffee (instant) and goat before we could proceed.

Old lady, she looked 90 but could have been 40 (life is tough down here), was yelling at 805Gregg after he used the bathroom. Both Gregg and Ken used the bathroom and I think they figured it out after we left. She was the attendant and they skipped out on their bills, kind of like dine and dash, but it was more like splash and dash. (No actual picture of the crime in progress, sorry)

El Fuerte is the last 'civilized' town we will be in for a few days. Tourist area but not many tourists around. Talked to some people that had been on the train through the canyon. And there was a large medical group doing volunteer work (Liga International).

There was a 'nicer' hotel a little closer into town, maybe called the Francisco(?), all in all a nice place.

The government building was deserted as it was a Saturday.

Wandered through the courtyard of another hotel. Mike and Ken walked through some bushes and ended up with red bug bites all over their legs, no permanate damage.

Those would be Shinko 244's, 4.6x17 in front, 5.1x17 in rear. Have about 3500 miles on them and looks like the back might be good for another 2500 (guessing 6000 total miles possible in rear).

Paid $85 total shipped to my door. Did this trip last year on F650 with Tourances. I would not do that again! Run good on the highway, no bad noise or vibration. May get a little squirrely over 70mph, but not a problem.

Fascinated with Mexico Ride Reports. chabon, I followed your last Copper Canyon RR.

And the #1 team in the country goes down in flames......

So we had a great day in El Fuerte. As I look through these photos, I'm struck by how often the entire group has a grin on their faces......for 5 old dogs, everyone seemed to have a pretty good time.........

Our off street parking.

The hotel a block away, the San Francisco, same price but much better courtyard.....we didn't know......

We toured the town including the Civic Center, town square, mission, Hildalgo Hotel and the Museum...........here's an assortment of photos......
