Looking for suggestions on Nevada Roads

I have always wanted to explore the Nevada high desert, ranges and valleys. I know that area is not particularly fancy and it's not a tourist destination. But it is remote, wild and bizarre -- seemingly perfect for a motorcycle trip. So with a few friends, here's a trip I'm planning (late June):

http://goo.gl/maps/cR9rv

208 miles on Day-1 + 120 mile round trip to Bodie Ghost Town
429 miles on Day-2 Exploring The Big Smoky Valley Scenic Drive and The Desatoya Mountains Scenic Drive
273 miles ride back on Day-3

Any ideas on things to explore in that area? What are some scenic routes? Motorcycle friendly places to stop? Alternately, any areas to avoid?

This place isn't far off your route, a great place to camp out if it's near the end of one of your days' rides. BYOS (Bring your own stuff - nothing there but the springs and some portapottys)

Fish Lake Hot Springs

That is a booring trip in car, morothome, or Goldwing. Doesn't come near the good stuff if you have and Adv bike. See my Statewide Motorized Trail System for NV or my 5-day Dual Sport ride along Hwy 50

All on GPSXchange.com

We are going to be on street bikes, so no Adv stuff.

Done it. The only alternative is 6/120 out of Tonopah. 120 to 395 has lots of curves and paved whoops. Benton Hot springs is a good stop and they have a hot spring. http://www.monocounty.org/old-benton-hot-springs/

Yes to above, much better. Montgomery Pass, Benton, June Lake, Mono Lake, side trip toward Tioga pass, & Bridgeport all better than more Navada desert. I hate to back track, it is County Dirt into Bodie either way. Go up from Hawthorne road come back the way you planned.

Updated plan. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Now going through Tioga Pass, Benton, Tonopah, Hwy 376, Hwy 722, Topaz, Monitor Pass, Ebbetts Pass.

That is a good choice. I live between Ebbets and Sonora Pass. Tioga is pretty spectacular and Ebbetts not so much, but full of twists and turns. Monitor pass always reminds me of pictures of Switzerland.

I agree with Gary, for some reason I like headin west on hwy 4.

I think the guy that laid out 120 east of 395 should get some kinda award. Scares the sh!t outa me every time , can't wait to get back there.

One more suggestion. If the weather permits, instead of taking 120 out of Yosemite west, take 140 to Mariposa. That puts you on hwy 49 through the west coast version of the Dragon. It ties back into 120 at Moccasin creek.

Question: Where would you recommend staying in Topaz or nearabouts? Hotels or motels only, no camping.

The plan is to use Hwy 89 and Hwy 4 back home on Day 3, so not too from those highways.

There are motels in all the little towns. I haven't stayed in any of them, except Lee Vining and it was over priced.

Topaz is a casino complete with motel, fuel, mini mart, restaurant and gambling. Probably will be the cheapest, I know their gas certainly is cheap compared to the others.

I have stayed in Markleeville at the Creekside Lodge next to the bar restaurant. Small but nice. The Carson river resort is rustic cabins, sparsely furnished. Still have to into town for food.

If you make it to Minden, they have the Carson Valley Inn, its decent and there are a couple of Basque restaurants.

Stayed at the village motel spring before last, and I'd stay there again.

In Minden just up the road from Topaz http://www.nvvillagemotel.com
