A very good friend of mine works for a very large BMW dealership....I hear quite a lot. You wouldn't believe what BMW never really finishes developing and let's their mechanics sort out under warranty....

I sold my 335i right before I ran out of warranty for exactly that reason. I just felt that maintaining a car that complicated was gonna be very expensive.

If I'd have bought a 328i or a 528i I might have kept it, since they're a bit simpler. That said, the turbo on my Jetta TDI lasted 200k miles.

Motorcycles, I dont know. I can only say that's what the plan is for their cars which seem to be worse and worse every year. Start/Stop M3? really?

Magnussen-Moss Act would prohibit that unless all maintenance that had to have that unit was done for free!

If I could get a new Golf TDI with an extra inch of clearance, and AWD, I would sell my 2003 TDI tomorrow.

But the Bimmers are out of my range.

You need to buy a J2534 passthrough tool and subscribe to the manufacture's service. For example, BMW. But, the only software access that's required to be available to the independent shop is emissions control related.

I had a 335d. On steroids to 70, plus 40mpg.

I will look at the new one.

Not enough advantages for the higher cost.
