Went to the dealer yesterday and asked about any new info on the bike or release date. The sale dude said BMW is keeping the dealers in the dark. They are getting frustrated because there are no more RT's in the pipeline and no delivery date on the new bike and no ETA on information in general.

I guess with the GSA getting the treatment last week that the big unveil for the RT will be Milan. Roll on..

Supposed to have been shown to dealers last Friday - but under embargo until Milan show. Bah.

The panniers look kind of odd. Are they supposed to be armored? They're one of the few issues I have with my RT, I can't stand the side opening nonsense. Or perhaps I need to get the liner bags. I still don't know what I'd like more a RT or a GS. Strikes with the RT are weight, the panniers and in the summer too much wind protection (which has been a godsend in the rain). The grass always seems greener.

My 2 main questions are ;

1. How many shades of brown will it come in?

2. How many sets of switchgear will a rider get through before the end of the warranty period?

There appears to be an abundant supply of new RT's within the dealer network. A quick Cycle Trader search yields 104 new bikes. I don't know where the dealer stock normally would sit early in the 3rd quarter, but 104 bikes feels like a lot, no? A normal-year sell rate probably won't apply given the pending release of the new product.

From an earlier press release:
Sales suffered in the United States, however, and BMW Motorrad USA reported a decrease of 4.6% for August compared to last year. The R1200GS was the most popular model in the States in August, with 160 units delivered followed by the S1000RR which had 147 units delivered. Year-to-date figures are still positive in the US, with BWM Motorrad holding a 17.5% improvement in sales over the same eight-month period in 2012.
So the supply shown on Cycle Trader, which is almost surely not everything, is probably a full summer month's sell rate for the RT coming into yearend with a new model pending.

You'll know the RT-w is imminent when BMW starts throwing a lot of cash on the hood, er, seat.

Over here, the RT has had a load of kit (1800) thrown at it all year, plus dealer discounts, leading to it being the best selling touring bike in the UK. Lot of bike for the money.

I think the current RT has a $1500 incentive at this time to move the 13's out before the '14 WCRT arrives.

I've heard there on hold until they resolve the issues on the GS-LC and can get the fixes fitted to the new builds. See GS thread for details on failures.

Regards, Paul

They do the same thing every year about this time. I was offered the $1500 deal last November when I picked up my 2012 RT.

Really... Well i heard that they were delaying the RT until 2015 so they could increase production of the GS to attempt to meet customer demand.

It'll be interesting for sure. Can't see BM leaving the RT out of the line up for a year.

Just saw the post about water pumps becoming a consumable item. Jesus wept...

Could you link that thread? I seem to have missed it. I wasn't aware of any issues that would delay production of the RT.
