Bent Bonneville shift shaft; how hard to replace?

Got a guy with who laid down his 2007 triumph bonneville and bent the shift shaft? He asked me to help fix it. How tuff a job is it? I've been into plenty of motors but mostly 4T singles. Anything wierd about a Bonnie? I just don't want to get half way into it and find out I need a "Factory Tool" to finish the job.

Not sure on tooling, but it requires a full bottom end tear down as I understand it.

It looks like the shaft runs to the other side of the engine:

$117.00!

Not fun at all...

It's not bad, a couple hours. Remove the left side engine cover and the right side shift mechanism cover. Here's a discussion, link.
