Like I said, awesome. Hey, I spent the night in Beaumont on Sunday after the race. I got in real late so I didn't get a chance to call. You GOTTA go to COTA next year.

I do not think I would buy one, but it does seem to be fun to ride under the right situations.
Sort of a hooligan bike, and blast is a good name for it.
It does love to rev, but has a lot of low end and torque, and the one I have is loud as hell, and I can not get on it and not act like an asshole.

I need to clean the carb and go over the bike, I fixed the transmission but ignored the rest of the bike, and it needs attention.
I think its got under 1300 miles on it and its old!

I bet the blast will bring out the asshole in anyone who gets on one...

This is my first bike, I should have parted it but ended up repairing it instead. I got the "punky buellster" in 2005 so I've had it awhile. If you ride sensibly you can get 60mpg or so and parts will last. Unfortunately riding sensibly isn't my thing, I ride the blast hard and got through brakes and tires. I think many of the engine issues are because the carb tune is too lean which causes the bike to chew up exhaust valve seat. If you get one I'd get the carb tuned first off. My bike had 5900miles on it when I got it and smoked. Besides the carb issue there is an issue with pre-2002 bikes that had paper rocker cover gaskets. The new gasket is stamped metal with silicone. Another little issue is the air box will eat through the wiring harness. All that shaking will make bolts back out and parts fall apart so strong parts and locktite are your friends.

I'm a b-last fan so maybe my opinion is slanted, but if you can find me a better bike to ride around SF I'd love to see it. Short wheel base and light weight makes turning/parking easy. Thumper so lots of torque, thin for cutting through traffic, loud to scare off jay walkers. Belt so no chain lube, I only broke the belt once, embarassing to say the least especially since I had cut the lanes and had to push the bike off the road. The blast has excellent brakes, if you don't understand brake modulation there might be a bit of a learning curve, this bike will stop on a dime.

I'm not saying the blast is a great bike but for what is is it is fun. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. If anyone is blastarded and needs any help don't be shy, I've fixed about everything on the punky buellster.

I was wondering why you didn't call...

I figured you got tired sitting in traffic and probably stopped in Baytown or just west of Houston. My wife and I almost went to COTA at the last minute. I'm going to be there next year.

I agree with that

I'd own another one, honestly. There are far too few street bike thumpers over 250cc. I love the simplicity of a carb'd thumper, and torque is always fun.

Cool a blast racer. Someone on another forum built a flat tracker blast, don't think I ever saw any pictures of it. Glad to see I'm not alone here, no wonder people refer to themselves as inmates.

I was thinking about making a sticker for my bike, "instant asshole just add motorcycle."

Energy one makes a nice clutch for the blast if anyone needs a clutch.

Well, she got blasted. She road it and it just really fit her well and she felt comfortable on it. She rode it 140 miles home and still liked it. If anybody knows some good forums or web sites for Blasts please let me know.

The blast at my house has been sitting outside all winter, and has not been on the road in a few years.
I uncovered it and it started right up.
Amazing.

It was not running great, so I thought it was time for a carb cleaning.
Seat off, gas tank off, air box off (all easy), carb off, intake manifold rubber looked nasty, all sort of grunge and white powder on the sealing surface Icarb and manifold), I took the carb apart, some grunge in the bowl, the O ring was sort of rough, 170 main jet, no shims in the needle.

After the cleaning, put it back together with some silicone grease on the manifold and the float bowl O ring, and it wont start (yet).

This bike has a throttle position sensor and something else, an electric choke or idle speed control, or something, and no choke.

I might have a stuck float, or something plugged up, or a manifold problem.

No spark.
I cranked it over today after work and smelled fuel.
Pulled the plug (not real easy to get at) it was black and no spark.
I put another good plug in the wire and grounded it, no spark.
Must have disturbed something when I had the gas tank off.

Dirty fuse contact.
Cleaned all the fuses, got hot spark, fired right up and runs very nice.

Funny, clean the carb and the fuse acts up...
