Not only no seam underwear, but what pants you wear makes a difference because they can develope folds. I wear mesh motorcycle pants and under them I wear long johns in the cold weather and thin pants with zip off legs in warm weather. Loose fit jeans will get creases or folds that are worst the underwear seams.

Maybe it's not the seat (although most stock seats suck).
Remember that old TV ad for "BUNS OF STEEL", you either
need a tight ass, or a stiff seat.
Beads, and Gold Bond also help alot.

Cotton - the evil fiber

Funny, I haven't seen anyone mention cotton underwear and their evils. They hold on to any moisture (read sweat) they stick and, on me anyway, chafe away. I have some Dri-Wear (Underarmour like) shorts that I find work wonders. I also have an Air Hawk pad on the stock BMW seat (redone 1970-something design) and it works great. But it doesn't matter in the least if my arse is a chaffed screaming mess.
Larger than life and twice as ugly!

I've heard women say a thong works well. Have any of you guys tried it?

They do have seams, but I've had good luck with Exoficio boxer briefs. Many a 600+ miler with no problems.

Sent from somewhere.

The cheapest and most effective solution is the Bead Rider seat cover, It will make a stock KLR650 seat bearable for long day after day after day riding.

Most iron butt riders swear by them. I've got well over 100k miles between my bikes using one.
If you're a serious long distance rider it will be the best $40 you ever spent.

I comfortably rode my supermoto on a 1500 mile trip last year. Biggest factor was underwear. I made the mistake of bringing a few pairs of cheap boxers that chafed the crap out of my butt when I rode in em, figured it out and switched to good boxer briefs with no seams, which is the only underwear that seems to work for me. The exofficio's are decent, but at $30 a pop I could only afford one pair. The rest I have are bamboo rayon which seems to wick really well. Cotton does suck.

I also have some armored shorts I use for biking that I wear. Extra padding on the butt and armor for the hips, IMO the most important bone to protect next to your head.

Couldn't afford a custom seat or air hawk, I just brought a big piece of foam and sandwiched it between my ass and the seat. Just left it sitting under the bike at rest and overnight stops, when it got too ratty I tossed it in the trash. I've also done a 10 day bender on a sport bike, 10-12 hour days in BC. It wasn't bad at all as long as we hit some twisty roads and I got a chance to hang my butt off and move around a bit. Straight sections were murder.

I'm doing the same ride at the same time going the opposite direction, Canada south on the 101. Good luck and I'll be sure to wave when we cross paths.
