Maybe because its a knock-off of a proper British twin????

This is what I meant, it seems EVERYONE has a 650 Yamaha memory. They had one, or rode the neighbors, crashed their cousins', something.

Had one, sold it last winter for 2x what I paid for it.

The XS is a love/hate relationship.

I agree,love/hate thing, damn the thing really vibrated, and somewhere buried in all the noise and vibration was something I was suppose to be happy with, people would wander outta the wood work to tell me their XS stories,ah just like ya said!!

A Guzzi twin, preferably from the pre-Aprilia years. Character. Or something. Weirdly addictive.

A cheap, smallish japanese dual purpose bike. See how the other 6 billion live.

A Honda sport-tourer to show you how Spock's father would design a bike: completely devoid of emotion.

Something high-strung with short maintenance intervals from central or southern Europe. Like a hot red-headed girlfriend with expensive tastes.

A BMW 1200 GS or a KTM 1200 ADV, just so you can hang out with the cool kids and sip lattes.

A Harley. Just so you can say BTDT, STFU.

I am surprised at the amount of fear the cr 500 generates with no mention of the Suzuki Cyclone.

There are many more CR500s out there compared to Suzuki Cyclones. But I've ridden both and the Suzy was a right scary ride. The CR is actually rather civilized excluding the '86. But I've been riding open classers since the '70s.

Oh and add this to that list.

Anyone post a Kawasaki Triple yet? If you haven't broken your tail bone, arm and a leg on this one, then the CR500 is for you...

So many bikes out there. I've been trying to ride as many engine styles I can.
Thumpers: 1 cylinder
Twins: Parallel, V, L and Boxer
Triples
Four Cylinder: Inline, Flat and V
Flat Six

Regardless of make but if you decide to try a Sportster try any and then try a 1998 XL1200S
