No list would be complete without a Harley. Any Harley.

Having had the shit scared outta me on a CR500 (and I never even got past 2nd gear....), I'll put in a vote for the CT90.
You meet the nicest people on a Honda. Plus you can haul the deer you just bagged on that rack.

Non-V-Rod Harley. Nothing pulses quite like that
Any VFR with gear driven cams for the burbling & whirring at idle alone; the stone-axe reliability is just a bonus
A Ducati
And finally, most any small-displacement, Japanese, air-cooled single -- the indestructible dirtbike. Extra credit for plates and streetable tires.

I currently have a couple, an 06 Hayabusa LE and a 79 Honda CBX Super Sport. I would add a 69 or 70 Honda CB 750-4 and a Suzuki X6 Hustler.

Now you've got all the modern crap out the way (apart from the Hardley's) how about proper iconic bikes.......

VINCENT .... any twin
Late 1960's BONNEVILLE
KAWASAKI H1
PANTHER 120
KAWASAKI Z1R TURBO
MAICO 490
MANX NORTON
LAVERDA JOTA
BROUGH SUPERIOR
INDIAN SCOUT
BSA CLUBMAN
GUZZI Le MANS MK I

Be nice to add a classic race bike or two - any of the old 2-stroke GP beasts.

Nowt wrong with modern kit - just a bit obvious & low on the legend scale

This thread makes me want to sell my soul to fund the purchase of a CR500...

It can sit in the corner of my garage next to what the subcontinent shaped from pot metal and called an Enfield

-Jake

P.S. Oh, and I second the Ninja 250 on this list. So much can be accomplished with so little.

If you have never owned a scooter you don't know what you are missing.

While those are lovely motorcycles, I think you missed the point of the thread.

A "modern" Guzzi (I had a V11 LeMans. Nothing else in motorcycling sounds that good)
Kawasaki H2
Bonneville
CBX
EVO Harley (I'd choose a Springer, such as a limited production mid '90's Bad Boy)
A well sorted streetable supermoto
CB750
GL1800 (really!)
