I had a 1979 GS650G - I *loved* that bike. Still ticked I had to give it up.

I still think any of the GSXR line, approached respectfully, is a 'must-own' for any dedicated motorcyclist.

An old Royal Enfield 500 Iron head.
17 HP, drum brakes, Lucas Coil, old school carb, points and just fast enough to hurt yourself on but not fast enough to go anywhere fast.
Becuse every one needs a real apperciation of how easy they have it with modern motorcycles :)

hmmm, I'm starting to think I have owned a bunch of boring bikes. If any bike can be considered boring.

I'm gonna say any big metric cruiser. It's a relaxing ride, but has the punch to leave the 4 wheel traffic sucking wind. Mike mine an M109R, please.

Honda NC700X. I haven't ridden one, but I would sure like to own one. Very user friendly, well balanced, ergos are perfect, and it's got that fantastic storage area. What's not to like?

Honda GL1800. Take it down your favorite curvy road and prepare to be amazed. Great handling, luxurious, and power to burn.

V-Max. Pay for your funeral first.

Kawasaki Ninja 1000 = because I just need to know what it's like to ride something so competent.

Motus - need I say more?

We got off to that crazy start and it just got better and better. What a ride. Twenty-plus years later, I still feel like a 'tard for selling it. Paying rent is so overrated.
I currently own a 1976 RD400C w/ stage 2 setup. Bought new and road raced a1975 RD350 as a teen and early 20's. Always wanted a Gamma. Suppose it's a "grass is always greener" kind of thing.

I own a NC700X. It's a great bike with great economy, but I wouldn't put it in a must own or must ride category. It's just a really sensible motorcycle for everyday riding.

Mention of the Aprilia SM bikes, certainly on the wish list as well as a Hypermotard.

I think it's quite likely that anything in the must ride/must own camp will not feature "sensible" as an attribute.

CB750F Spencer replica (not colours, but a proper period race bike for the street, tuned down so it won't grenade itself every 3 blocks)

Ducati Sport 1000 (sex on wheels)

Guzzi Daytona 1000 (or, were I thick in the wallet, MGS-01 for track day)

RZ500 (always wanted one, never even got a ride *SOB*)

Oh, and +1 on the ELR. The original 1000 was THE ultimate Kawasaki superbike for me.

I kinda disagree with this. You should own a sensible bike only to contrast with something...less sensible.
