Update on Teknic Warranty Problems

I have been trying to get Teknic to honour their warranty for 1 month and 29 days. Although they agree my jacket is defective they ignore all requests to send a RMA and expect Canadian customers to pay shipping to return products (this is against consumer protection laws in some provinces in Canada).

Here's a summary of the last message I sent to them:

  1. Teknic [Specialty Sports Ltd.] is identified as the warrantor on the product labeling. [Gamma Sales is not.]
  2. Teknic acknowledges the jacket is defective (tekniccustserv@ssltd.org, "Re: Product Support", March 15, 2013)
  3. Teknic advised that Gamma Sales is the Canadian distributor and that they would respond following receipt of my contact information (March 15) [They never did.]
  4. Teknic was advised my contact information was included in the original e-mail, March 1st (March 25)
  5. Teknic never responded to the significant costs required to be incurred by the consumer to transport a product out-of-province (March 1, March 25, April 1, and April 10)
  6. Teknic has refused to confirm product repairs will return the jacket to the same level of safety and weather resistance performance (March 1, March 25, April 1, and April 10)
  7. Teknic has not responded to the lack of follow-up by their authorized Canadian distributor (April 1, and April 10)
  8. Teknic flat out ignored sent on March 1st, March 11th, March 25th, April 1st, and April 10th.

Teknic appears to have gone out business. Probably why you haven't got a response.

Well damn.

I know the OP has had issues, but I love my Freeway jacket.

I saw that Motorcycle closeouts is having a sale on Teknic. They have a disclaimer that all warranty claims will be between the manufacturer and customer and if the manufacturer goes out of business there is no warranty.

Sounds like Teknic is gone.

It's all over the Web right now. Every bike forum around has a thread about "Tecknic went out of business?".

This is sad. Teknic had a number of interesting and reasonably priced products.

I liked their gear and most of my gear is still Teknic but based on my personal experience with trying to get them to honor warranty claims (long before this announcement), I am not at all surprised they are out of business.

i'm keeping my eye out for Teknic gear on closeout, specifically the jackets. I like their stuff, and if I can get it super cheap, I'll take the warranty risk. i've never had any piece of gear that needed a warranty claim anyway.

It is unfortunate. I like my teknic jacket. They were one of the few affordable brands that didn't dick you around with "foam back pad upgradeable to CE armor." I just found this thread because I noticed while ashing it today that the seam tape is starting to fail though. Should'a got the Goretex for the lifetime warranty.

I like teknic gear. good quality for the price.

I have a 5 year old teknic kangaroo suit that was purchased for $600. I've taken a few spills in it. just some wear marks and all the stiching is still intact.

I bought a Freeway jacket on closeout. I already own an older version, and decide to get a spare. I think you can't find anything better for bad weather riding. The new version can even be upgraded with chest armor. Where else you can get a jacket with chest armor for under $300? It has the permanently attached "Z-Liner"- absolutely waterproof, although it doesn't flow much air and the jacket is only good below 75. The reflective thermal liner is simply amazing, I think it is second to none.

I too have a Tekcnic jacket with the "Z-Liner" thing...I liked the look and the level of protection (hard plastic outer protectors) for DS riding but damn...it's like wearing a plastic bag. This liner doesn't breath at all and even if you open up the vents, the air can't go through.

I bought these Violator gloves on sale:
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/t...iolator-gloves

and so far I love them for what I wanted, a high quality gauntlet glove with great protection and better feel for a good price. I was willing to spend much more than this on some Helds or Racers but these feel equivalent to their $180-200 offerings. Goat skin palm gives pretty good dexterity. I love the protection, very good ulna covering which is something that's lacking on a lot of gloves. And they fit perfectly right out of the box, almost broken in already. Only complaint is that they don't flow a lot of air, but it usually isn't my hands making me hot, you get cooler faster by changing pants/jacket. For $110, they can wear out in two years and I'll still be happy.

Now to find some shorty DS gloves which ALSO have some ulna protection...not as easy to do in a short.
