Tire Stem Popped on New BikeMaster Tube!

Beautiful day in SF today so I went for a ride. As I was heading into the city at about 60 mph the rear end started to skate on me. I immediately pulled over and my tire was flat.

Long story short and after getting billed $100 from the nearest cycle shop, turns out the stem just blew out on the tube (which is only 2 months old). Scary.

It was a BikeMaster Tube. after researching I found that there are shipments from China where the stems are popping out of the tubes. Thank the Lord it was not the front tire! Anyway the rear was replaced with a metzler and I will do the same with the front asap.

Just getting the word out to others with BikeMaster or other cheaper tubes made in China (without quality control...).

I always use Michelin or Metzler much better quality than the Chinese, never had that happen!

Metzeler tubes have been being made in China for several years.

Everything is these days. It comes down to quality control. You have to figure if a reputable company is putting their name on something they are going to have very good quality control. At least we can assume. That said, I now realize when it comes to motorcycle parts its worth spending the extra knowing that, at least, a business's reputation is at sake.

They charged you $100 to change a tube? Or does that include towing you to their shop?

You were TAKEN in every way by that shop..... Learn to do your own tires/tubes. You do not need the most expensive tubes BTW. IRC ones work great. BikeMaster stuff is all pretty suspect and you clearly payed a Michelin price so I would not go back there other than to get TIRE and TUBE replaced. A wheel off bike with new tube would be $65 in MI most places and just wheel already off would be $35 just to show you how badly you were creamed. And always ask what products are being put on your bike... Hope you kept your receipt and glad you were not injured. You need to take pictures for possible small claims court action. Hope you did at the time to show time/date.
