85 Beta TR33 New bike and need help

hey guys, I just came across a 85 Beta TR33 and I need some help. The guy I bought it from new very little about the bike and said it had just been sitting for a few years. My dad and I put in some new gas and she fired right up. We rode it around for a while and put her up. Does any one know what the gas mixture is supposed to be? I have heard anywhere from 40:1 to 100:1 on various forums. This is my first trials bike and I am not really doing much with it now besides trying to find my balance points. Thanks guys!

the bike:

My dad rockin it!

40-50 with a good oil. Just hate to see problems now. Nice looking for that old of Beta. ITSA has just started a mono class this year!

50:1 is fine for air cooled "trials only" type riding with good synthetic 2stroke oil.

Riding like enduro/trail riding I would opt for 40:1 which was posted above me... just because harrd ro find parts, imho.

Nice pic of your Dad getting the front wheel up and yes 50-1 on the oil.
Enjoy!

You can use whatever fuel/oil mix you want for trials, as motors are very low heat, and as long as you use a good fully synthetic PRE MIX ONLY oil, you wont have any problems.

However if you choose to use excessive amounts of oil, your bike wont run as well as using the correct amount, and if you choose to service the exhaust system it will very quickly become clogged again.

70-80:1 is fine for all air cooled trials bikes, with the proviso that you must use fully synthetic PRE MIX ONLY 2t oil.

Thanks guys, my dad is fascinate by the bike, he is looking into the trials training centers instruction courses and watching instructional videos all the time. He had a blast on the bike and it was his first time on anything besides his royal star in almost 15 years, by the way he is 69 years old with a new hip and soon to have new knees.

Fathers day gift suggestion:
Good riding gear and a good helmet, he looks as if he is fearless on that thing, could be problematic without some good gear

Does anyone know what the correct spark plug for this bike should be or where I could find another coil?

Just curious, would like to gather as many parts as I can get. What gap should I set the plugs to?

Plug gap 0.50mm or 0.020 inches

Take a look at these links for some basic info:

If I were to run this bike in any events, what class would I be in? Obviously in a amateur class, but I know ITSA has the new class but i have front disc brake so I am left to run with the new bikes right?

Also, what are the differences between this and the newer bikes? Frame, better suspension, rake of front end?

What was a trials course like in 85 era?

Actually ITSA does have a vintage mono class that just started this year. Not too many riding it yet. They consider the disc on the original monos not really better than drums of the period.
