LOL, my wife read that and said put down the reservation! :)

I think the around-town mileage was said to be more in the high 40s. This would be outrageous with a small turbo-diesel. My 98 Jetta and 2002 NB get 43 and 41 around town already, and more on the road, and the Jetta is a 3300+ lb car. I may have to put down two deposits for my kid, who just flipped over it, lol

The Eilo to me almost has a lotus super 7 look about it.
The Elio is MUCH sportier looking, and the sparrow has an "Old woman that lives in the shoe" styling... I think it might have been the color, I saw this green one and the first thing I thought of was the sparrow.
When I look at both together, the only thing that is similar is the three wheels.

My thoughts exactly. Even the canadian smart car diesel version could return over 100mpg. Some ave done it IN the smart car and this is much lighter and more aerodynamic. I would love to have a diesel version of the Elio. Put a 30 gallon fuel tank in it and drive CC on one tank.

Dr Seuss is what comes to my mind when I think of the Sparrow styling.

is this new info?

According to Stempeck, interested buyers can put down deposits in varying increments, sort of like a Kickstarter campaign. The larger the deposit, the sooner the buyer will get his or her Elio once production begins.

Elio says that will be sometime next summer, when the company will start assembling its three-wheel cars in an old General Motors plant Louisiana.

Edit:
I actually went to see the car when they were in Cleveland, the rep answered many of the questions we've been asking. I thought I had a link on this thread to my blog post about it but I guess not. Here ya go...

70 HP is going to get 84mpg? Hmmm...starting to sound like vapor ware.

Sorry, sometimes I forget that not everyone is in my line of work...

Basically, if I gave you a small lego house, and you made the house the same as I did with your own legos, then you just reverse engineered my work. It's not mine, it won't have my name on it, but it's pretty much the same.

Often reverse engineering can produce a superior product if the guys doing the engineering find ways to improve what was there. Sometimes though, it's a complicated piece of machinery and the engineers aren't very good.

84mpg is possible, but it's going to be at 58mph with a tail wind. Real world will probably be in the upper 60's low 70's. But I could be wrong.

Here is a metro getting 64mpg with a boattail...http://jalopnik.com/5436408/attentio...eds-a-boattail

And here is one that got over 80mpg but at only 34mph...http://www.metrompg.com/posts/hyperm...as-mileage.htm

I know what reverse engineering is, but they said they used geo metro engine and did not modify anything. How do they consider that reverse anything? If I take the engine out of a lawn mower and put it on a bicycle, it is not reverse engineering.

edit. I see they changed the FI system and computer.

I have some magic beans which my company, Motopodd are now looking to sell.

If you send me 100 today I will include a bottle of free snake oil. :)

Alternatively, we can build you an actual, real, made of metal sidecar outfit for a realistic price that we can actually deliver to you in a sensible time scale. If you pay us a deposit, and we fail to deliver within a reasonable period, we'll return your deposit if you prefer not to wait.

If you like, we'll build you a reverse trike too, but it will cost what you would expect it to cost...

If it looks too good to be true...

...It is.

I want it to be true

I and a lot of people want it to be true...but until they have a dealership, it won't happen.

Everything about this "deal" sounds like a fund raiser...with no promises to ever deliver. Everything is worded so carefully to avoid actual commitment.

My thoughts: Why not be busy making Elio's right now instead of doing the road show? Why not make 50 Elio's and sell one in each state that the road show is in?

If they were interested in making Elio's and selling them, they would and could be BUT they only seem to be interested in getting funding for the Elio manufacturing dream, since that is what they are doing.

Must be more money in selling the dream than the car.
