Slap 2013

Want to thank all who organized SLAP 2013 and All of the Attendee's this year because without you it would not been an EPIC event.

We had a great selection of door prizes and Live music thanks to Cactus Jones, Kraybil and who new Guavadude could rip some cords.

A cool Slap 2013 commemorative BEER MUG which came in handy during the event

I arrived Wednesday evening and Dirtydog and Nooner went to work on setting things up, ya Nooner can really throw a fit

But then he just got over it and went after blowing that thing up

Yep I just took your photo dude

Random event photos

Great Food catered by Byrd's Rick displaying the BBQ

One of the Door prizes being displayed (Newner Loop) hard to see when it is camo

Looks like Dr.Z picked up a ????????

We had Cruisers, Dual Sports, Single Track Bikes, and even Bicycles

Laugh More pics

A little late to the pic party but better late than never.

What a long ride to the SLAP from Casa Z (took about 17 hours to drive 1100 miles one way).

Was it worth it... meh... judge for yourself...

Ratwagon & home base for 3 days...

Sanjoh prepping the DRZ...

Sanjoh & FIL somewhere in the woods...

Some trail off the beaten path...

On the way to Frog Bayou...

Frog Bayou falls... this place was pretty cool... we actually had to check this place out twice to show Scribe the "fun" way to the falls.

On the way out of Frog Bayou...

I forgot the name of this road but I believe I rode it quite a few times...

Mill Creek ORV...

Random shots along some beautiful scenery...

A few shots of a bypass that connects a couple of forest roads...

More fun...

Came up to this "creek" crossing waypoint on the gps and, although it was impassable at the point where the road went into the water, it was passable just a little bit down the way. There was 4 of us and I decided to go across. The rocks were a little slimy and I walked the bike a few feet but I did it. It was fookin hot so the cool water from the crick felt great. Since I was already soaking wet, I figured I'd spot the other 3 FFs across the river. That was until Sanjoh came up to cross. That fooker pinned it and got across it with only one dab!

Looking from the other side...

On the way back to camp, we came across this...

I checked inside to see if there was anyone inside. Luckily, no one was in it. I hope they were OK. It looks like they overshot the corner and went mountain surfing. They were probably a little chitfaced judging by all the empties in the bed.

Well, if you can't tell by now, I had a great time. Thanks for Toyman and all the other FFs that made this event possible. The food, beer, and camaraderie were excellent. Had a great time by the fire Saturday night and met a few more inmates.

BTW... Tetley like the tea, I reckon ... Ryan Villopoto called... he wants his flat brim hat back.

Great pics, thanks for sharing. I think I have Lynne convinced that we need to be there riding for at least three days next year. We just missed so many good rides. Next time....

Well Done

Mrs and I have to thank y'all for helping us with our first ADV, well, anything! We took it easy on the rides and enjoyed Byrds, the Ozarks and the company. You guys know how to make us n00bs feel welcome .

And while I may have not gotten far, I still get to tell people I came in first in the Trials GS class (... or was that last!)

thanks to all
Paul

edit* Hey 4jranch - Even my posts here have to camp next to ya!

Didn't he also say something about Ted being a pussy?

Why am I flipping people off in every one of those photos? That's so unlike me.

Beer makes Ray happy.

Gus even adventure rode his hawg down.

We decided to leave saturday afternoon and go find the Hurricane Creek trail that Oleary had ridden previously. We found it! Thanks Oleary!!

Ray walking on water.

Wifey comin across. Pretty rough trail and she did great!

See Ray ride.

See Ray fall.

Ray just has to find new lines, mine arent good 'nuff.

He found a nice big boulder to run into.

I wanted to get in the water and help, but since I had a camera I thought I was more useful taking pics.

They were still smiling so we kept on.

We made it out safely and on the way back to Byrds we ran across Newner frolicking in the woods!

I decided to help, so I took more pics.

It was a good recovery, good job guys!

Newner even had on his mountain climbing Croks for the rescue.

We had a great dinner and good times.

I'll let you guys caption this:

Thank goodness we had this guy there to keep the Okies under control.

The lovebirds!

Well that honeymoon didnt last long, Scribe already picked up a new skank.

Off they go.

Breakfast at Oark was superb!

Then this group walked in....We just cant get any peace and quiet.

We got back and "Team Hot-Shoe" was headed out for a ride.

Thats about it for us, we had a good ride home.

Thanks Bill and everyone!!!

This was my first ADV rally! I rode my heavy ol' Scrambler down from mid Missouri, figuring I'd be able to find some other ADVers interested in forest service road-like riding. :)

On the way down I shared the Peel ferry across Bull Shoals with a big group of riders from Mexico on BMWs and Ducs.

 photo P1000539.jpg

Made it down to Byrds, got then pitched and settled in (free beer always helps there!)

 photo P1000540.jpg

Managed to join Crashit's ride Saturday for some good riding, had a great time!

 photo P1000541.jpg

 photo P1000544.jpg

Although Warloop was a bit more than I bargained for! Made it through though, and carried on.

Unfortunately, not long after that Conrad went down. After getting him loaded in to the ambulance and on his way to surgery to fix his leg, Gordon, Hunter, Larry and I continued.

 photo P1000547.jpg

We took in the Natural Dam after lunch.

 photo P1000546.jpg

We did run through one more pretty rough section, but survived it as well. Only to have Crashit live up to his handle at the very end of the ride! We got him mounted back up and continued on back to Byrds for some great bbq, more beer and music!

Broke camp Sunday morning and had some fun on Morgan Mountain Road on the way out.

 photo P1000550.jpg

 photo P1000552.jpg

Of course, I had to stop and grab a burger at Oark's for lunch!

 photo P1000556.jpg

Then I just had to suffer through some of Arkansas' fabulous paved backroads on the way home. All in all I had a great time riding, meeting new people, drinking, etc. Byrds was great, and big thanks to all those who put in the work to pull this off! I'm already scheming on how I can make it out to WestFest and have some fun out in the mountains!

Aren't you one of the Cabot fellas that rode in the Blues Brothers group with me at the AR500? I don't think I ever got your handle if you are. If not, maybe next time. Take care.
No I did not make the AR500 but my buddy Tom "Crownhorse" was the one you met with two others. He is from Cabot and he and I ride often. He is about as crazy as i am off road. Good man and he was instrumental after we got my dad to the hospital. About an hour to the hospital following the ambulance. Few hours there waiting for My mom to arrive who was in Russelville with my wife thankfully for my daughters b-ball tournament. We then drove back to byrds via hwy about an hour and then another hour via Tom's truck and trailer to rescue my dad's bike sleeping in the bushes on whitewater road. He just did whatever needed to be done and never got amped up about any of it. A real straight shooter and he would give the shirt off his back. Though after all that and waiting a day to leave with no shower I dont think anyone would want the shirt. LOL we were ripe.

My dad spent a few days in the hospital and my mom stayed at the hampton inn in Fort Smith. Had to endure the tornado weather that blasted through Fort Smith with the sirens and all. They had her in the lobby of the hotel and they put matresses in front of the windows and doors. So wonder if my parents will ever visit me again LOL. I was going to drive them home but my mother would have nothin to do with it. She drove home with my dad laid up in the back seat. So they are home and he is just a bitchin about not being able to walk around. says the pain is bad at night but lined up to see the ortho docs back home. His bike and trailer are at my house. Probably gonna go ahead and get it fixed up. Broken rear mastercyclinder brake pedal pivot bracket. Will need the new bracket and probably a master cylinder rebuild or whole new one. The threaded bolt that the brake pedal clevis hooks too broke in half. Not sure if a rebuild kit will have all that i need for that. Either way probably a 100 dollar fix.

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone and i hope to attend next year. Hope my dad is up riding by then. If not offroad itll be some epic paved. He owns about 6 to 7 bikes so i dont think he is gonna just swear off motorcycles and not ride. Biggest thing is the docs say he probably wont be playing raquetball for a couple of years if at all. Thats his fitness thing. But we all know the docs gotta give the worst scenario. i am confident that if there is a way he will do it.
