I thought he waited too long but he can just hit the afterburners sometimes.

Boasson Hagen snuck in for a quiet second.

He is an animal when he turns on the afterburners. Hagen rode his coat tails all the way to the line

Worth the 15 bucks to me.

Each stage start to finish; endless replays of each stage in it's entirety; and, best of all, no commercials! Highly recommended!

As an aside, it will be a sad day when Phil and Paul retire...

Thanks. That will save me $15 vs getting the online package.

Interesting.

View Juan Antonio Flecha Giannoni’s race data in TrainingPeaks: http://bit.ly/12mO8XA

Flecha didn’t have power data for this stage, but this gives us the opportunity to look at his heart rate and speed data - and draw some different observations than the usual.

All else being equal, a lower heart rate for the same effort indicates better cardiovascular fitness. According to his TrainingPeaks data, Flecha’s resting HR is 32 bpm - well below the average range of 60-100. During the five and a half hour stage, Flecha only averaged a heart rate of 124 bpm!
124 bpm is 66% of his threshold HR. This means Stage 5 was an aerobic, pretty "easy" ride for him...

...but taking it easy doesn’t mean taking it slow. Despite his low heart rate, Flecha completed the stage with the lead group, averaging 37.8 kph (23.5 mph). He reached a peak speed of 84.6 kph (52.6 mph) on the final descent and final few kilometers of the stage racing towards the line. What would your heart rate be if you were going 23.5 mph on the bike on flat land?

Even the sprinters can climb at the Tour. Flecha’s file shows 2292 meters (7519 feet) of climbing for the day. Top sprinter Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) took the win and in order to do so, had to get over the climbs to even contest the sprint.

I've figured out what I really dislike about US Tour coverage.

Every year, we're treated like we're noobs to the sport.

Whoever is announcing feels the need to explain shit so that 'Bubba 6-pack' who wanders past during the commercial break 'gets it.'

As opposed to the Euro feeds that assume you're a fan and talk to you at that level.

Of the two, I prefer the Euro feeds.

In my experience, all US sports commentators do this and/or dumb everything down. I have never found a single US commentator worth watching/listening to, they all suck.

First time I watched the Tour of California, I had to turn the volume way down

The commentary was distracting and aimed at someone who knows nothing about cycling or cycling races. Maybe that is what the numbers tell them to do?

May be a stupid question but why does it appear that one rider on opqs appear to be on an orange bike?
