Nice ride report! Sucks about that engine though.

The group search briefly for another route to the Buzzard's Roost. After backtracking a few miles, they saw a sign that showed the way to I-40, and headed out of the forest. Dad says he believed that there was a weeks worth of riding at Cataloochie if a rider wanted to check out all the roads.
Aww, com'on Andy! I made it across there on my Cagiva.

I guess the water was a little lower for me.

Miss riding with you guys - need to do it again!

It looks like 3rd gear broke and then broke everything else.

Do you have the tracks from this trip...I'd like to do it myself.
Andy will fix it!

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

We were going in the opposite direction up the rocks. What's the road like beyond the crossing? Oh and does it lead to Buzzards Roost?

Don said, "We can cross, but there might be a Spot moment." Once everybody understood what a Spot moment was, we turned around.

Nice ride! Any pics of the hurricane gap or max patch area to share? Edit! Guess I missed a page! Carry on with this report!

I'm not familiar with Buzzards Roost. We started in Weaverville, NC, went thru Pisgah, Max Patch and then down to that crossing. I'm glad we were headed south because on the north side of that crossing the terrain was very different. It was very steep, narrow, heavily rutted with water-filled muddy ruts in the wheel tracks and little room to maneuver around them. When we got down to the crossing, we figured it was not as bad as turning around and going back the way we had come. Honestly as we were headed down, I was thinking "I'm not sure I can make it back up this way with this big-ass bike." It was the most difficult terrain we encountered during the entire week of riding in the NC, TN, GA mountains. Sorry no pics - I was in survival mode.

Here are a few pics from the Max Patch area before we headed down to the crossing.

Here's the track we took from Weaverville to Maggie Valley. The crossing and the Max Patch area is the section where our track parallels the AT.

Sorry for the thread-jack. I'll be quiet. Continue with this great report.

Thanks for the info. Buzzards Roost is an overlook above the tunnel on I40. Looks like you went right by it.

Oh, yeah. I learned about it after the fact. We rode right by and didn't see it. Also, now I recall that creek crossing is south of 40 (and Buzzards Roost). Like you said the crossing is much easier headed south - also I wouldn't take a big bike that way again. Next time I'll be on the DRZ.

Cash, You should have been with us. Thanks for the info from your ride. It seems like we were in the right place, going the right direction. I am OK with the turn around. We had a lot more riding to do.

Although I had not ridden in the area around Hot springs before, we were not trailblazing. The Tailofthedragon website has a good report in riding in the area. He seems to have run the same roads in the opposite direction.

Definately let me know next time. I'd love to ride with you guys again - a nicer group of guys I have yet to find!

I have tracks from that area all the way to Springer Mtn in GA that I rode last year - awesome sections in north GA. Haven't done a RR (I'm bad about that). Trip was cut short because my riding buddy went over the edge and trashed his bike. I'd love to do it again and finish my planned route.

This was our planned route - I call it the Appalachian Loop Trail. We anly got about half of it done.
